Rockstar Games announced that its highly anticipated title, GTA 6, will hit the market without the inclusion of microtransactions or generative artificial intelligence. The decision aims to ensure a smoother launch for the game, scheduled for November 2026, avoiding practices that often generate debates in the gaming community.
During a recent conversation with Kinda Funny Games, the developer responsible for Grand Theft Auto 6 detailed that the open world game will dispense with these two strategies that have been the subject of controversy in the industry. The expectation is that this approach will minimize possible criticism and controversy at the launch of the title.
Kinda Funny Games’ Andy Cortez asked Rockstar about the possibility of players using real money to purchase in-game items during a preview event. The company’s response was categorical: “there will be no monetization in this game”, as Cortez reported.
Then, Greg Miller, also from Kinda Funny Games, asked directly about the presence of generative AI in GTA 6. The developer’s team promptly confirmed that “there is no AI” in the game.
The implementation of generative artificial intelligence in games has proven to be a sore point for developers, with titles such as De Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Arc Raiders facing challenges in this regard. For the millions of fans who have been waiting for the next GTA for 13 years, the absence of these technologies is seen as a relief, promising a more focused and less controversial experience. The issue of microtransactions, however, presents some important nuances.
Rockstar reaffirmed that GTA 6 will not adopt monetization models that allow content to be purchased with real money, which is good news for a game focused exclusively on the single-player campaign. This statement, however, also serves as a reminder of the lack of information about a possible new version of GTA Online in the near future.
Still, despite the absence of microtransactions in the traditional sense, the developer will make exclusive content available to those who opt for the Ultimate Edition. This special version of the game will offer access to items such as cosmetic packs, vehicles, weapons and early access to unique establishments, including Electric Fang tattoo parlor and Stock 305 clothing store.
The company stated that “Ultimate Edition bonuses are present in every aspect of Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items revealed throughout each chapter.”
Players can therefore expect a release without other monetization tactics or artificial intelligence features when GTA 6 hits PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026.
