Users of the Waze application, a route guide tool, were surprised on August 31, 2026 with snow storm alerts in Teresina. The capital of Piauí, however, reached the mark of 38.6 °C and was among the five hottest cities in the country, according to data from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).
In an official statement, the company responsible for the application reported that a flaw in its system generated erroneous warnings about snowfall for some users, and that the problem has already been resolved. Waze, however, did not detail the causes of the failure or the affected locations.
Waze is widely used by drivers to identify the best routes. Several users reported receiving snow notifications amid strong sun and intense heat, a notable contrast to the app’s message.
In a check carried out on August 31, 2026, when entering a destination on the platform, the route suggestion also included a warning to change route due to a supposed risk of snowstorms.
B-R-O-Bró begins, a period of intense heat in Piauí
The hottest and driest period of the year in Piauí, popularly known as B-R-O-Bró, began on September 1, 2026, marking the arrival of the month.
B-R-O-Bró covers the last months of the year, characterized by high temperatures and low air humidity. During this period, there are concerns about dehydration, prolonged sun exposure and an increase in fires.
For 2026, the forecast indicates even more intense heat in the region, influenced by the action of the El Niño phenomenon and the beginning of spring, scheduled for September 22nd.
