Defender Raúl Asencio, who plays for Real Madrid, was recently convicted of a traffic safety crime after driving under the influence of alcohol. The information was released by several sources close to the case.
Asencio was intercepted during an alcohol check in the city of Gran Canaria, at around 6:30 am on August 16, while driving a luxury sports vehicle. The player performed two breathalyzer tests, registering 0.90 mg/l in the first and 0.88 mg/l in the second, indicating an alcohol content four times higher than the legal limit.
The athlete accepted the charges in a summary trial, resulting in a conviction that includes payment of a fine of 14,400 euros, the equivalent of R$85,900. Additionally, Raúl Asencio’s driver’s license was suspended for a period of eight months.
Although Real Madrid is aware of the incident and has been questioned about what happened, the club chose not to issue an official statement. However, an internal source confirmed that the Merengue team will apply punishments to Asencio, as provided for in its disciplinary code.
Raúl Asencio, 23, is currently recovering from a muscle injury to the rectus femoris of his right leg, suffered on July 30. Real Madrid’s medical report stated that developments were expected, with a return to action expected in mid-September.
