Google announced on September 1, 2026 the launch of Google Pics, a new application for Google Workspace focused on creating and editing images using artificial intelligence. The tool, which is based on the Nano Banana model, allows you to generate images from textual descriptions, select specific objects and edit texts within a collaborative interface.
Access to Google Pics has begun for customers with eligible Workspace plans, as well as Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers. As the rollout is being made in stages, it may take some time for the app to appear on all accounts.

Discover the new Google Pics editor
Google Pics offers a unified environment for generating and manipulating images, ideal for collaboration. Users can start with a blank canvas, upload an existing file or use other images for reference, with all work saved to Google Drive.
The tool was initially presented during the Google I/O 2026 event, in May, and went through a period of restricted testing before being released to the qualified public.
In addition to generating scenes based on text prompts, you can apply style references, incorporate specific characters and objects. After initial creation, the same platform offers features such as cropping, rotation, aspect ratio adjustment, and AI commands for detailed retouching.
Top Image Editing Features of Google Pics
Pics is capable of identifying elements such as objects and texts, allowing each one to be modified individually without the need to recreate the entire composition. Google’s promise is to keep the rest of the image unchanged while edits are applied.
- Object selection: Allows you to move, resize, recolor or transform specific elements;
- Text editing: Identifies words within the image and allows you to change the content, preserving the original visual style;
- Translation: Converts art text to different languages without requiring manual reconstruction of the layout;
- Composition adjustments: Tools for cropping, rotating and modifying the overall aspect ratio of the image;
- Combined editions: Allows you to group up to five different changes in a single request.
These features are useful for adapting marketing materials to different markets, replacing products in advertisements or rearranging the visual structure of a piece. It is important to remember that AI-generated images may have imperfections, so human review of texts, logos, data and other details is essential before professional use.
Understand editor integration with Workspace
The integration of Google Pics with Google Workspace begins with the Docs and Slides applications, allowing images to be sent for editing without leaving the current work tab. Support for opening saved images directly from Google Drive with one click will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
Files can be shared with other users for editing, and Google Drive maintains a version history of work.
Who has access to Google Pics and how to start using it
Within the Workspace ecosystem, the support page lists compatibility with Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, AI Expanded Access and Google AI Pro for Education plans, as well as some legacy add-ons. For personal account users, Pics is available through Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscriptions, except in Germany where personal is not offered.
The application works in computer browsers and accepts commands in Portuguese. Google clarifies that generative features have usage limits, but expanded promotional access is guaranteed, at least, until February 28, 2027.
Pics supports files in JPG, PNG, BMP and TIFF formats, which can be imported from your computer, Google Drive or Google Photos. To export, you can download the image in its original size or in JPEG in 2K or 4K resolutions; In the Workspace Experiments program, only original size is an option at this time. To start using it, simply log into pics.new with an account that meets the eligibility requirements.
