1047 Games has confirmed the end of development and support for the titles Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. The measure was necessary, according to the company, because the games did not generate enough revenue to maintain the costs of their dedicated servers.
Despite the end of support for current games, the developer guaranteed that the studio will remain active. The plan is to direct efforts to a new project, which may present a proposal substantially different from the team’s previous titles.
The official communication of the change was released through an update on the Steam platform. The company explained that it had covered the operating costs of the servers for a considerable period, aiming to provide maximum opportunity for the games to grow. However, the model became financially unsustainable.
The path of the original Splitgate and the path that led to its financial decline
Initially released in 2019, the game Splitgate: Arena Warfare quickly became an unexpected success. The beta phase, which featured crossplay, faced interruptions due to high demand from players, forcing 1047 Games to delay the launch to restructure its server infrastructure.
In a moment of optimism, Ian Proulx, co-founder and CEO of 1047 Games, even expressed his ambition to transform the company into the next Riot Games.
However, the panorama changed with the release of Splitgate 2, and the successor title, Empulse, although it showed potential, did not achieve the expected repercussions. Shortly after the launch of Empulse, the company terminated several employees.
Deactivation of dedicated servers and the option to play via P2P
The final date for the operation of the dedicated servers of Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and the Matchmaking system has been set for September 3rd. After this date, users will continue to have the ability to create and participate in matches, in addition to having fun with friends, through peer-to-peer (P2P) support.
The game Empulse will receive a final new map and will have its price reduced. 1047 Games has ensured that both Empulse and Splitgate will have P2P support permanently, repeating the model applied to the original Splitgate.
Next steps for 1047 Games and the future after closures
The note released about the company’s future conveyed a feeling of gratitude. The studio expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the titles Splitgate, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and Empulse, including former collaborators.
The statement also made a point of recognizing the community of players who actively participated by offering feedback, producing video content, discussing balance adjustments, exploring new game mechanics, and inviting friends to matches.
