Many Fire TV Stick users face a frustrating user experience, with slow navigation and excessive time to load content. The common perception is that the device may be defective or already needs to be replaced.

However, before you consider purchasing a new device, a check of the settings may reveal the cause of the problem. Often, a single function operates in the background, using part of the bandwidth and compromising performance. Disabling this option can bring an instant and significant improvement.

If your Fire TV Stick exhibits similar slow behavior, it is very likely that this is the root of the inconvenience.

How Fire TV Stick autoplay impacts the device

The Fire TV Stick’s main screen automatically shows preview videos as the user explores the menu. These previews start loading even before any click to play, something that, despite seeming harmless, can cause several difficulties.

The competition for system resources generated by this function can make the entire device interface slower and less responsive.

Automatic playback requires the device to continuously process large volumes of video data until the moment a movie or series is chosen, taking up a significant portion of the available memory and processing power.

In addition to slowing down the interface, these previews also use internet data even when they are not watched, generating unnecessary bandwidth consumption for the connection.

By disabling this functionality, system resources are instantly freed up, allowing the Fire TV Stick to focus exclusively on the content the user actually wants to see. The improvement in response speed is immediately noticeable.

Disable Autoplay Function in Easy Steps

To start, press the “Home” button on your Fire TV Stick remote to access the main screen. Then navigate to the “Settings” option, select “Preferences” and locate the “Featured Content” item in the menu that appears.

Within “Featured content”, disable the two available options: “Allow video autoplay” and “Allow audio autoplay.”

When you return to the home screen and navigate again, the performance difference will be visible. Navigation will become faster and content will load more quickly. This improvement in responsiveness is due to the device no longer processing multiple tasks in the background.

This simple change to the settings solves most cases of slowdowns, which often lead people to believe that their devices are having problems. It is one of the most frequent reasons for performance drops on any Fire TV Stick model.

Other actions to optimize speed, if necessary

If turning off autoplay doesn’t completely eliminate the slowdown, a simple restart may be the next step. Press the “Select” and “Play/Pause” buttons at the same time on the remote control. This procedure restarts the device without erasing account settings or data.

If the issue persists, unplug your Fire TV Stick from power for ten seconds, then plug it back in. This brief power outage and restoration can resolve temporary system failures.

It is also advisable to check for software updates in the device’s “Settings”. Outdated firmware can be the cause of performance issues that are fixed by installing the latest versions.

Although these additional measures are rarely necessary after disabling autoplay, they may be helpful if slowdowns persist on your device.
