Dodge adds new After Dark paint option to the 2027 Durango lineup

Dodge has added a new exterior color to the 2027 Durango, a metallic midnight blue shade called After Dark. The finish became available to order for $595, according to Dodge.

It marks the ninth exterior color now offered on the 2027 Durango. Other choices include Destroyer Grey, Green Machine, Pitch Black and White Knuckle, alongside the recently introduced Redeye finish.

The Durango is one of the oldest vehicles still sold in the United States. Its third generation launched back in 2011, and the SUV still rides on mechanical underpinnings dating to the DaimlerChrysler era.

Despite its age, sales have kept moving. The Jeep Grand Cherokee, which shares its platform, outsold the Durango in the US through the first half of 2026 by more than two to one. The Ford Explorer delivered 127,000 units in the same period, compared with 39,000 Durangos.

What does the After Dark color actually look like?

Dodge describes After Dark as darker and more sultry than the brand’s existing B5 Blue shade, which has long been associated with vintage Challengers and Chargers. Unlike many blacked-out special editions on the market, the After Dark Durango does not get black wheels.

Instead, it pairs with brushed aluminum 10-spoke alloy wheels. Dodge said the metallic highlights in the paint emerge in direct sunlight, “while the dark base delivers a more aggressive, low-profile appearance after sunset.”

“Dodge customers don’t blend in – and neither should their vehicles,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge CEO, about the new personalization option.

Engine choices remain limited to Hemi V8 power

Every 2027 Durango comes with a Hemi V8, reintroduced to the lineup one year ago. Buyers can choose from three displacements:

• 360-horsepower Durango GT with a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8
• 475-horsepower Durango R/T 392 with a 6.4-liter naturally aspirated V8
• 710-horsepower Durango SRT Hellcat and Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak, powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8

A full redesign is still years away

Stellantis has confirmed that a fourth-generation Durango is in development. The next-generation SUV will be built at the Detroit Assembly Complex alongside the Grand Cherokee, but it is not expected for roughly three more years.

Until then, Dodge appears set on keeping the current Durango relevant through paint and trim updates rather than mechanical changes. The After Dark color is the latest example of that approach.
