Nintendo confirmed that the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will launch on Switch 2 on 5 November 2026. The company presented new gameplay footage showing technical upgrades across Hyrule.
New movement mechanics alter traversal in Hyrule Field
Players can jump directly. Link now leaps across obstacles with a dedicated button press, replacing the automatic jumping mechanic from the 1998 original release. In Hyrule Field, players can roll and dash continuously over long distances without draining a stamina gauge.
While visits to shops feature seamless camera movements without loading pauses, passing into Hyrule Field or entering the Deku Tree dungeon still displays traditional transition screens because designers chose to preserve the exact atmospheric pacing of the original game.
Visual upgrades modernize the classic environment
The title retains the core layout of the source material while rebuilding surrounding environments with updated textures and lighting. Nintendo redesigned several interior locations to remove delays when Link enters town buildings.
Players hum songs to control the musical instrument
The musical mechanics feature support for real-life vocal humming to execute songs on the Ocarina. A dedicated physical Ocarina accessory will launch alongside the title for players seeking tactile input. Nintendo added this audio option to change how users interact with classic melodies during quests.
Mobile integration introduces Zelda Notes on smartphones
Smartphone users will access additional tools through a companion service named Zelda Notes. The software connects with the console experience through several distinct features:
- Performance tracking for in-game accomplishments and milestones
- Interactive melodies using a digital version of the Ocarina
- A trivia quiz covering Hyrule lore and game knowledge
The companion application will store Zelda Notes quiz scores directly on connected smartphones.
