Liverpool meet Tottenham on September 14, 2026, at 16:00 Brasília time at Anfield in the third round of the EFL Cup. The single-elimination fixture brings the two English clubs together for a spot in the subsequent phase of the tournament.
Tottenham arrive under pressure after failing to score in four Premier League fixtures under manager Roberto De Zerbi. The London club occupies 17th position with two points in the domestic table. Their sole victory this campaign arrived in the prior round of the EFL Cup, when the squad defeated second-tier Charlton Athletic 5-1.
Ahead of the encounter at Anfield, Roberto De Zerbi announced in a press conference that Richarlison will not travel. The Brazilian forward was left out of the 25-man Premier League squad after being informed he was not part of the plans for the first team, remaining tied to Tottenham after failing to secure a transfer before the transfer window closed. Even though his current registration permits appearances in secondary tournaments, the coaching staff excluded him from cup duties. He remains sidelined.
“Richarlison, you already know everything, and nothing changes for the EFL Cup or the Premier League,” Roberto De Zerbi said. “The situation remains the same, so Richarlison will not play even though he is available, not even in the EFL Cup.”
Richarlison reposted the announcement online.
Liverpool make their tournament debut while maintaining an unbeaten run under manager Andoni Iraola. In the Premier League, the club sits in eighth place with one victory and three draws. The Spanish coach also guided the squad to a 2-1 home victory against Atlético de Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Kickoff is scheduled for September 14, 2026, at 16:00 Brasília time.
The match takes place at Anfield in Liverpool, England. Stadium gates open prior to the afternoon kickoff.
