Demonstrations of the opening chapter of Final Fantasy VII Revelation during the Tokyo Game Show in Tokyo, Japan, revealed the visual presets built for the PlayStation 5 Pro this Thursday (24). Hands-on sessions of the preview build showed multiple graphical profiles, confirming options tailored for resolution, frame pacing, and machine-learning reconstruction.

Square Enix game director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the PlayStation 5 Pro hardware includes a custom configuration engineered to deliver top-tier clarity and fluid motion simultaneously. “On PS5 Pro, by leveraging PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), we have implemented a mode that delivers both 4K image quality and 60 FPS gameplay,” Hamaguchi stated.

Presets balance frame rates and image clarity

The 25-minute demonstration showcased four distinct visual setups on the upgraded console. Players can select between conventional visual modes or the hardware-accelerated upscaling option created specifically for the mid-generation platform.

Quality mode locks the presentation to an expected baseline of 30 frames per second while running at native 4K resolution. This profile targets maximum rendering assets across geometry and atmospheric effects. The Performance options split into two distinct variations: Sharp and Soft, also referred to in technical menus as Smooth. Both variations sustain a target of 60 frames per second, altering filtering techniques to achieve their respective outputs.

Visual variance between the settings appears prominently in character model hair strands, complex cast shadows, volumetric lighting grids, and distant foliage in open environments.

Technical specifications identified in the build

The settings confirmed during testing at the convention display the following baseline targets for the final release:

  • Quality mode: native 4K resolution output at a locked 30 frames per second target
  • Performance Sharp mode: higher dynamic clarity profile running at 60 frames per second
  • Performance Soft mode: smoother anti-aliasing profile running at 60 frames per second
  • PSSR dedicated mode: PlayStation 5 Pro exclusive setting pairing 4K resolution with 60 frames per second
  • Estimated storage requirement: approximately 200 GB of internal storage space
  • Official release date: April 8, 2027

Evolution across the remake trilogy

Visual management in the concluding chapter builds on the graphical structures of its direct predecessors. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade launched on current-generation hardware with two basic options: a Graphics mode rendering at native 4K at 30 frames per second, and a standard Performance mode lowering dynamic resolution toward 1440p to sustain 60 frames per second.

The subsequent chapter, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, later expanded its display suite by introducing the split between Performance Sharp and Performance Smooth via post-launch updates. The Smooth configuration prioritized stable frame pacing through softer temporal reconstruction, while Sharp reduced edge blurring at the cost of slight aliasing. Final Fantasy VII Revelation integrates these dual performance paths directly from its initial build, pairing them with the automated upscaling routines of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution.

Unconfirmed metrics and launch schedule

Square Enix has not yet published the precise internal rendering resolutions for the Performance sub-modes, leaving baseline pixel counts unconfirmed ahead of final optimization passes.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation serves as the concluding installment of the remake project. The full title is scheduled for worldwide release on April 8, 2027, launching across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
