Sucker Punch Productions deployed an unannounced PlayStation 5 update releasing the free Beauty of Yōtei mode ahead of schedule in Bellevue, Washington, on Monday, September 21, 2026. The new option arrived directly on the main menu of Ghost of Yōtei as part of a 29 GB download, preceding the paid story expansion scheduled for October.
The update functions as a dynamic scenic screensaver that showcases rotating panoramic views of Ezo backed by ambient music and full access to Photo Mode. Online community members quickly embraced the surprise addition, with Reddit user SM_Buckets noting that they “jumped straight into Beauty mode, so nice and relaxing” shortly after installing the files.
Visual transmog system arrives alongside emergency hotfix
Beyond the scenic mode, the 29 GB download delivered an early transmog customization system to the game. The tool allows players to retain the cosmetic visual appearance of any preferred armor set while equipping the combat stats and functional perks of a different outfit.
The early file rollout also created technical complications that required rapid developer intervention. Sucker Punch released an emergency 2.002 patch shortly afterward to remove unreleased expansion armors that had unlocked prematurely in player inventories due to a data handling error.
Upcoming content rollout schedule and edition prices
The early visual features arrive ahead of a wider slate of downloadable content and physical retail releases scheduled across the start of the month.

Sekigahara narrative expansion and roguelike survival format
The upcoming paid narrative DLC Echoes of Sekigahara focuses on Atsu’s past on the mainland during the Battle of Sekigahara and her current trials in northern Japan. The official synopsis states: “In the present, Nagato has arrived in Ezo and is wanted by the Vipers, outlaws loyal to the Snake left leaderless after his death.”
The package also introduces Most Wanted, an independent survival mode featuring roguelike progression mechanics. The mode expands the active character roster by adding Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato, and Ghost of Tsushima protagonist Jin Sakai as playable combatants.
New Watanabe music tracks are available now as part of a free update for all Ghost of Yōtei players. Complete Edition is out Oct 1.

Franchise timeline and unconfirmed release reasons
Ghost of Yōtei launched worldwide exclusively for PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025, serving as a standalone successor to Ghost of Tsushima, and reaches its first anniversary in October 2026. Sucker Punch Productions senior communications manager Andrew Goldfarb has not issued a public statement clarifying whether the early deployment of Beauty of Yōtei was an intentional surprise or an accidental result of the technical pre-load phase.
The studio has not confirmed when other promised quality-of-life adjustments, such as additional Watanabe Mode audio tracks, will go live ahead of the October 1 expansion launch.
