Publisher Focus Entertainment and independent developer Afterburner Studios announced that action platformer Elta: Defy All Gods will release worldwide on February 2, 2027. The title is headed to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, accompanied by an immediate standalone playable demo that lets players test the opening campaign section ahead of launch.

The free trial package debuted on October 1, 2026, across digital console storefronts and PC. Players entering the preview explore the frozen territory of Lerna, an introductory sector designed with aged architecture, industrial remains, and interconnected hidden routes.

Martial arts mechanics and vertical exploration define gameplay

The campaign centers on Victus, a disciplined warrior monk sent into exile across dangerous alien landscapes. Victus embarks on a high-stakes search to recover Elta, his missing dragon deity, in an attempt to protect his remaining society from total collapse. The experience unites hand-to-hand combat systems modeled after Chinese martial arts with structure drawn from traditional exploration platformers across three distinct science-fiction worlds.

Ian Cofino, game director and co-founder at Afterburner Studios, outlined the core design philosophy that steered the project’s production. “We like to call Elta: Defy All Gods a ‘brawlervania,'” Cofino said. “The challenge lies in mastering both combat and navigation, facing enemies in dynamic encounters across expansive worlds that will not always hold your hand.”

Combat routines drop traditional swords in favor of direct physical strikes. Players cycle between three separate fighting stances, each tied to independent talent progressions and energy-fueled magic discharges that activate during melee sequences. Traversal upgrades expand mobility throughout the map, granting abilities such as double jumps, aerial dashes, wall runs, and a retractable grappling line.

The protagonist travels alongside a miniature dragon that actively shapes both combat routines and environment traversal. As the mythical creature regains fragments of its lost power, Victus secures stronger impact ratings on strikes and unlocks movement techniques required to reach previously inaccessible elevations.

Independent team expands development scale through publishing deal

Elta: Defy All Gods marks the sophomore release from Afterburner Studios, an independent development studio based in San Francisco, California. Founded by three partners and operated by a core group of 12 developers, the studio previously produced the action roguelite Dreamscaper, which launched in August 2021 and accumulated more than 600,000 players.

Full development on the new project spanned five uninterrupted years. To achieve greater production fidelity and expand map scope, the studio partnered with Focus Entertainment, the publisher behind major releases such as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Focus Entertainment provided technical assistance across game design, production pipelines, and quality assurance testing.

Development leads credited several landmark action franchises as core references, including Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, God of War, Darksiders, and Jak and Daxter. Visual pacing and battle animations also drew inspiration from the anime series Dragon Ball Z and traditional Hong Kong martial arts cinema, specifically releases from the Shaw Brothers studio and the Ip Man film franchise.

Console hardware integration and digital pre-order bonuses

On PlayStation 5, the software takes advantage of the DualSense wireless controller’s haptic feedback components. Input profiles simulate physical impact weight behind individual punches and convey distinct surface resistance whenever Victus lands on elevated structures.

Players placing advance digital orders receive the Vanguard Armor, an exclusive cosmetic outfit made for the protagonist. European storefronts opened pre-orders at a base price of €29.99. Regional pricing for Brazilian digital stores on console and PC will be specified by the publisher at a later date.
