England striker Harry Kane and Bayern Munich reached a verbal agreement in principle on Thursday (15) to extend his contract with the German club through June 2029. Making the deal official now depends on completing standard paperwork, administrative adjustments, and final clauses regarding image rights.

Club executives in Munich plan to wrap up the bureaucratic procedures and announce the renewal ahead of the Ballon d’Or ceremony, the annual award presented to the world’s best football player, scheduled for October 26, 2026. The center-forward enters the event as one of the leading contenders for the individual trophy.

Before the verbal understanding between the forward and the Bavarian side, European clubs such as Barcelona and Manchester United had been monitoring his contractual status. Bayern Munich has not yet confirmed the exact date for the official announcement.

Club leadership makes exception to internal age policy during talks

As captain of the England national team, the striker initially sought a deal running through 2030 to align with the next World Cup tournament. Bayern Munich, however, held firm on its proposal to extend the commitment until June 2029, a timeframe both parties ultimately accepted in their verbal agreement.

Negotiations had been led for several months by Chief Executive Officer (CEO, the club’s top executive manager) Jan-Christian Dreesen alongside sporting director Max Eberl. Back in July, Dreesen stated that the club and the athlete were looking for a structure that suited both sides, while the player himself confirmed progress in the discussions during September.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer outlined the current stage of the process and noted that contract length is no longer an issue. “There are many details involved. Image rights, personality rights, and so on. We will resolve these details. It is not about the duration of the contract or anything like that,” the executive said.

Hainer also pointed to how well the player has settled in the Bavarian capital since arriving from England. “I am very optimistic. I know from Jan Dreesen and our board that the talks are going very well. Harry and his family feel extremely comfortable in Munich. I am very, very optimistic that it will be finalized soon,” Hainer stated.

To keep the center-forward on the roster, the German club’s leadership set aside a long-standing internal guideline regarding veteran players. “In the past, I would have said that, as a rule, players over 30 should only receive one-year contracts. But there are exceptions when you are convinced by a player. And we are convinced by Harry,” declared Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a member of the Bayern Munich supervisory board.

Scoring milestones and financial figures in German football

Since leaving Tottenham in 2023 to play in Germany, Harry Kane has won two Bundesliga titles (the top division of the German Championship, with the 2025 trophy marking the first major team title of his career), one German Cup, and two German Supercups. On the individual level, he has collected three consecutive league top-scorer crowns and two European Golden Shoes, the award given to the leading goalscorer across Europe’s domestic leagues.

Representing the England national team, the striker led his country to the Euro 2024 final and the 2026 World Cup semifinals. Key financial figures and statistical milestones from the player’s tenure in Germany and with his national squad include:

  • 2023 transfer fee: £100 million (pounds sterling, the official currency of the United Kingdom) paid to Tottenham;
  • Estimated weekly wage under the current deal: £400,000 per week, with no confirmation so far on whether the new contract includes a pay adjustment;
  • Overall record at Bayern Munich: 154 goals scored across 156 matches played;
  • Bundesliga milestone: 100 goals in 98 appearances, a mark reached in early October 2026 that made him the fastest player in league history to hit a century of goals, beating Dieter Müller’s previous record by 31 games;
  • 2025/26 season output: 73 combined goals for the German club and the England national team;
  • International appearances: 125 caps completed in October 2026, matching the all-time England appearance record held by Peter Shilton.
