Rockstar Games released the official launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) from New York on Thursday (15), showcasing approximately 90 seconds of footage captured entirely in-game on a PlayStation 5. The preview outlines the early criminal partnership of protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos while debuting the original single Flower in a Hurricane, composed by the French electronic duo Justice.

Set across the fictional state of Leonida, a sun-soaked region modeled after Florida that includes the Miami-inspired metropolis of Vice City, the footage examines how a botched robbery tests the couple’s relationship. In the official synopsis accompanying the broadcast, the studio detailed the central premise driving the single-player campaign. “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive,” Rockstar Games stated.

Criminal conspiracy in Leonida tests Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos

The opening sequence takes place in the tropical archipelago of Leonida Keys, where former soldier Jason Duval is seen working on a vessel at a local shipyard named Brian’s Marina Boatworks. During these initial moments, Duval reflects on the troubles he experienced during his military service just before answering a phone call from former inmate Lucia Caminos, who appears on screen wearing an electronic ankle monitor.

From there, the pacing accelerates to contrast the pair’s violent heists with quiet, intimate scenes together in a shower and a swimming pool. The montage cuts rapidly between bank robberies, street shootouts, urban explosions, and high-speed chases involving muscle cars, helicopters, and swamp airboats. Staying true to the satirical tone of the franchise, the glimpse into Leonida life also features eccentric local residents, including a man appearing to work out naked inside a gym, a citizen holding a live snake inches from his face, and armed, masked women in bikinis.

French duo Justice composes dynamic score and lead single with SZA and Tame Impala

Alongside the narrative preview, Rockstar Games confirmed that French electronic musicians Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé, known collectively as Justice, composed the dynamic original score for GTA 6. Unlike traditional static background tracks, the interactive instrumental score was engineered by the studio’s audio team to react in real time to player choices, shifting its tempo and arrangement according to the intensity of the action unfolding across the map.

The launch trailer’s featured anthem, Flower in a Hurricane, brings Justice together with Australian multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, R&B singer SZA, and Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, who perform the track’s guitar arrangements. Released immediately as a standalone single across digital streaming services, the song anchors the official compilation Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, created in partnership with Atlantic Records and opened for physical pre-orders on vinyl and CD. The broader 34-track collection features contributions from Travis Scott, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, PinkPantheress, Fred again.., Daft Punk co-founder Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, country singer Morgan Wallen, and the duo CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso.

Console preload calendar and technical specifications for the November release

Commercial distribution of Grand Theft Auto VI is locked in for November with full localization, including Portuguese subtitles, and its arrival on November 19, 2026, qualifies the title just one day before the November 20 cutoff for The Game Awards 2026. The studio and its record label partners confirmed the following technical specifications and release schedule for the software and its companion music project:

  • Official title: Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), developed and published by Rockstar Games
  • Confirmed hardware platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S
  • Digital preload start date (advance installation of game files on consoles): November 12, 2026

Three-year promotional cycle concludes with PC and online questions open

The trailer released on October 15, 2026, caps a promotional campaign that began in December 2023 with the game’s debut reveal video and continued with a second trailer in May 2025. Prior to the launch trailer, Rockstar Games partnered with the streaming service Netflix in August 2026 to broadcast Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a 26-minute deep dive into the game’s mechanics and open world. The upcoming release marks the developer’s first brand-new single-player flagship title since Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived in 2018, and serves as the direct numbered successor to Grand Theft Auto V, which originally hit store shelves 13 years ago in 2013.

While the company emphasized that both the August showcase and the October launch trailer were captured directly from PlayStation 5

hardware, the official release notes did not distinguish whether the footage ran on the base console or the upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro model. Furthermore, Rockstar Games has yet to provide a release window for a PC version and has kept details under wraps regarding the structure and launch date of the next iteration of GTA Online.

The next milestone on the official calendar before physical copies reach retail shelves is the opening of digital preloads on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Players who purchased digital editions will be able to download the installation data starting November 12, 2026, exactly seven days ahead of the simultaneous worldwide debut of the game and its 34-track album on November 19, 2026.
