The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 42-year-old Prince Harry and 45-year-old Meghan Markle, completed their first joint public engagement on Thursday (15) since relocating back to the United Kingdom. The couple toured three social organizations across Nottingham, England, where a crowd of approximately 100 people gathered to greet them at the opening stop of their itinerary.
Their schedule began shortly after 10:30 a.m. local time at the Community Recording Studio (CRS), a charity based in the suburb of St Ann’s that provides young people with access to music studios, sports, creative activities, and mentoring. Walking hand in hand after stepping out of a dark-colored Range Rover, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent about 15 to 20 minutes outside the venue speaking with schoolchildren, posing for photographs, and accepting bouquets of autumn flowers from the crowd.
Among the local residents waiting behind green pavement barriers was 90-year-old Irene Hardman from Ruddington, who greeted and kissed the Duchess of Sussex upon arrival. Hardman became known during the prince’s earlier visits to the city for handing him bags of Haribo sweets, though she arrived empty-handed for this occasion. Speaking during the visit, Prince Harry said: “It is great to be back. Wonderful and great to be back in Nottingham too.” Meghan Markle described their return to the central English city as “really very significant.”
For the daytime outing, the duchess wore British fashion labels in shades of burgundy and aubergine, pairing a long coat, turtleneck top, and earrings by Joseph with a midi skirt from The Fold and shoes designed by Jennifer Chamandi. The duke dressed in a gray blazer layered over a white button-down shirt and blue jeans.
Youth workshops and community kitchen visits across three Nottingham neighborhoods
Inside the Community Recording Studio, which was established in 1991 by current chief executive Trevor Rose and co-founder Nick Street, the couple observed community development projects and watched an acting workshop. Prince Harry spoke with musician, poet, and youth mentor Jah Digga, while Meghan Markle joined female students from Bluebell Primary School for a confidence-building and friendship bracelet-making session. During the conversation with the girls, the duchess noted: “I feel most like myself when I’m with my family and also when I’m cooking. I love doing that. I love to cook.”
The prince’s connection to the St Ann’s facility dates back to a private visit in 2013 and continued on September 1, 2025, when he returned to announce a 1.1 million pound personal donation to the BBC Children in Need charity campaign to fund studio renovations and youth programs in the city. The Thursday itinerary covered three longstanding community partners across Nottingham:
- Community Recording Studio (CRS) in St Ann’s, beginning shortly after 10:30 a.m. local time with a public walkabout, an acting workshop, and a craft session with Bluebell Primary School students.
- Himmah Hub on Gregory Boulevard, where around 50 well-wishers gathered outside as the couple packed food parcels, visited the central England food bank, and joined women from the Hubb Community Kitchen for a cooking class.
- Epic Partners in the neighborhood of Sneinton, where the couple reviewed youth sports and mentoring initiatives before departing at approximately 3:05 p.m. local time.
Following the morning stop at the recording studio, the couple traveled to Himmah, a charity tackling poverty, food insecurity, and social exclusion. Meghan Markle previously collaborated with the Hubb Community Kitchen women on the 2018 charity release “Together: Our Community Cookbook” and quietly donated 10,000 pounds to Himmah in 2021 to stock its food bank and support the Salaam Shalom Kitchen. Their final stop took place at the headquarters of Epic Partners in Sneinton, an organization whose locally supported mentoring and educational programs served 45 students across seven schools through March 2026.
Relocation from California and King Charles III’s directive on private citizen status
Selecting Nottingham to resume their joint public schedule carries historical weight for the couple, as the city hosted their very first official joint engagement in December 2017, shortly after they announced their engagement. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from official working duties within the British royal family in January 2020 and spent six years living in California in the United States. They relocated back to England in August 2026 ahead of the autumn academic term in the Northern Hemisphere so their two children, 7-year-old Prince Archie and 5-year-old Princess Lilibet, could attend a British school.
Although the structure of the October 15, 2026 charity visits featured elements similar to royal tours, including a prearranged media pool and announcements using their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles, the couple does not represent the British Crown. In September 2026, Prince Harry’s father, King Charles III, sent an official letter to the couple’s team and senior government officials formalizing the terms of their presence in the country.
“The charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter for both of them and is carried out in a private capacity. In short, their position is similar to that of private citizens with commercial and philanthropic interests,” King Charles III stated in the September document. Prior to the public schedule in Nottingham, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had been photographed holding hands during a private outing at The Falkland Arms pub in the village of Great Tew, Oxfordshire, on October 1, 2026.
