Six upcoming independent games developed across Latin America received official recognition from Xbox on Friday (16) through the ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program (DAP), an initiative that funds and mentors independent creators. The featured lineup includes productions from studios based in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Argentina.

Since 2023, the program has partnered with more than 60 studios across the region to assist in the launch of over 30 culturally distinct titles on the platform. “The ID@Xbox Developer Acceleration Program offered valuable financial support that allowed us to bring Sky Dust to Xbox and Windows. For an independent studio like ours, this support helps reduce the financial pressure of developing for additional platforms and allows us to dedicate more resources to delivering a refined experience,” said Valnei Costa, co-founder of the Brazilian developer Orbit Studio.

Brazilian studios develop Sky Dust and GHOSTLESS for Xbox

Orbit Studio is developing Sky Dust, a single-player cyberpunk action-adventure game with role-playing elements set in a dystopian version of the city of São Paulo and a digital universe called the Cyberverse. Following the destruction of the Moon and the resulting lunar contamination, players control a mercenary who uses precise sword strikes, timed parries, hacking mechanics, and customizable cybernetic arms to navigate the conflict between humanity and technology. The developers stated that the goal is to present a Brazilian perspective on the cyberpunk genre while provoking reflection on what it means to remain human when technology reshapes both body and mind.

The second Brazilian project in the showcase is GHOSTLESS, created by the studio Coffeenauts. Set in an alternate post-apocalyptic 20th century where a Cold War artificial intelligence turned against humanity, the title combines 2.5D action-adventure with colony building. Players must scavenge for resources, recruit survivors to expand their base, and unmask infiltrated androids disguised among the human resistance. The visual design merges retro pixel graphics with modern 3D lighting, a style the studio calls high-fidelity pixel art, drawing inspiration from science fiction works such as The Terminator and The Thing.

Fábio Rosa, creative director at Coffeenauts, credited the console maker for the company’s origin. “Coffeenauts only exists as a studio today because Xbox decided to place its trust in us and support the development of our first game, a student project called Spacelines from the Far Out, which ended up becoming one of the first Brazilian games on Game Pass,” Rosa stated. He added that the selection of GHOSTLESS for the acceleration program provided initial development resources, marketing support, and industry validation.

Mexican developers bring Mariachi Legends and Greak 2 to Xbox

From Guadalajara, Mexico, Halberd Studios—the team behind the previous title 9 Years of Shadows—is preparing Mariachi Legends. The pixel art Metroidvania follows detective Pablo Cruz, who makes a pact with Death to transform into the supernatural entity La Sombra and fight a crime syndicate during the Day of the Dead festivities. The gameplay integrates traditional Mexican cuisine, allowing players to collect ingredients and cook regional dishes to gain strength, alongside a day-and-night cycle controlled by Sun and Moon gates that alters map accessibility.

“ID@Xbox was fundamental in helping us bring our vision to life without compromising quality or cultural authenticity. The program provided us with the resources and technical support needed to ensure that Mariachi Legends runs seamlessly on Xbox Series X|S and takes advantage of features like Xbox Play Anywhere,” Halberd Studios stated, noting that the title will also arrive on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

Another Mexican developer, Navegante, presented Greak 2: Alliance of the Storms, a hand-drawn sequel to Greak: Memories of Azur overseen by studio manager and producer Anahit Fernandez. Designed for solo play or local and online cooperative modes, the game separates protagonists Greak and Adara into parallel dimensions across the lands of Synoraz after an attack by the antagonist Ilikun. Because each character can only interact with objects, enemies, and paths within their own reality, players must coordinate actions across both worlds to solve puzzles and save the last Storm Egg. The studio noted that the DAP provided console porting support, educational resources, and marketing opportunities, building on a demonstration previously shown at the gamescom trade fair where parents and children played together.

Colorbound and Treetopians represent Chile and Argentina in ID@Xbox

Chilean developer Panpipe Studio, led by chief executive officer Isaías Arrué, is producing Colorbound, a puzzle-platformer inspired by Andean music, art, and culture. Published by the distributor Whitethorn Games, the narrative follows the protagonist Anku, who uses colors to alter the surrounding environment, solve challenges, and reunite a family of musicians for a farewell concert. According to the studio, the Xbox program supplied partial financing for production and post-production, accelerating development for a story focused on friendship and grief.

Representing Argentina, the independent team at Aparato Games is working on Treetopians, a colony management simulator focused on vertical village construction high in the treetops. Players manage community needs, gather resources, and expand settlements across diverse biomes at their own pace with technical and development backing from the Xbox initiative.
