Global digital reservations for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) reached an estimated 6.45 million copies as of Tuesday (20), generating approximately $630 million (around R$ 3.1 billion) in early revenue. The milestone comes exactly one month before Rockstar Games releases the title for home consoles on November 19, 2026.

The sales figures come from a weekly tracking report by market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. According to the data, Sony’s PlayStation 5 accounts for 74% of all advance purchases worldwide, while Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S consoles hold the remaining 26% share. Between Tuesday (13) and Tuesday (20), total reservations climbed from 6.08 million units and $594 million in revenue, adding roughly 370,000 copies in a single week.

PlayStation 5 leads console revenue breakdown over Xbox Series X|S

Sony’s 74% share of the global pre-order pool translates to roughly 4.8 million digital copies locked in by PlayStation 5 owners. On Sony hardware alone, the advance volume represents an estimated $468 million in gross sales ahead of launch.

On Xbox Series X|S systems, the 26% slice corresponds to approximately 1.66 million reserved copies. Purchases on Microsoft’s platform have brought in around $162 million through October 20, 2026, according to the same Sensor Tower tracking update.

Sensor Tower’s figures represent third-party market intelligence estimates focused on digital storefront revenue rather than an official financial disclosure from Rockstar Games or its parent company, Take-Two Interactive. Take-Two Interactive Chief Executive Officer Strauss Zelnick stated in August 2026 that early consumer demand was skewing toward the pricier Ultimate Edition, a trend Sensor Tower’s tracking also reflects. The $630 million total tracks consumer spending net of returns but does not deduct the costs of roughly a decade of production, global marketing campaigns, physical distribution, or the commission fees retained by console digital stores.

Wall Street sales forecasts and how GTA 6 compares to past blockbusters

Beyond pre-release tracking, a June 2026 financial analysis from US investment bank Piper Sandler projects that Grand Theft Auto VI could sell between 45 million and 46 million units during its launch window. Using an average reference price of $80 per copy, that volume would generate roughly $3.6 billion in gross revenue for the publisher, depending on regional pricing and edition mix. Separate projections from gaming analytics firm Newzoo estimate that global sales could reach up to $5.2 billion during the opening week alone.

Piper Sandler built its projection by comparing historical sales performance across major AAA releases—industry shorthand for high-budget, heavily marketed video games—against user traffic growth on the game’s dedicated Reddit community (r/GTA6). Meanwhile, Sensor Tower data collected through Tuesday (13) showed that the pace of digital reservations for GTA 6 in the United States was running 148% ahead of the previous six-year pre-launch record holder at the same point in its cycle, a title held by 2022’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

The previous entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5), debuted in 2013, 13 years ago. During its original rollout, that installment accumulated roughly 7 million pre-orders and sold 11 million copies within its first 24 hours on shelves.

Edition pricing, physical box rules, and November launch schedule

Following two internal production delays over its development cycle, Rockstar Games has kept the release locked in for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Consumers who buy the physical edition at brick-and-mortar retail stores will receive a download code inside the case rather than a game disc, requiring an internet connection to install the software just like a digital purchase. That distribution approach aligns with the early preload window designed to prevent server bottlenecks on launch day.

  • Start of digital pre-orders: June 25, 2026, at midnight local time.
  • Launch trailer release: Thursday (15).
  • Digital preload opening and physical retail box availability: November 12, 2026, at midnight Brasilia time (10 p.m. Eastern Time on November 11).
  • Official console release date: November 19, 2026.
  • Standard Edition price: $79.99 in the United States (R$ 449.90 on Brazilian digital storefronts).
  • Ultimate Edition price: $99.99 in the US market (R$ 549.90 in Brazil).
  • Pre-order bonus (for purchases completed before November 20, 2026): Vintage Vice City Pack and, on eligible digital purchases, a one-month free trial of the GTA+ subscription service.
  • Ultimate Edition bonus content: extra vehicles, weapons, outfits, and bonus missions unlocked from the opening days of play.

Return to Vice City and the status of a PC version

The narrative of Grand Theft Auto VI brings players back to Vice City, a metropolis set within the fictional state of Leonida, which is modeled after Florida in the United States. The single-player campaign follows dual protagonists Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval as they navigate a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state.

While the release calendar for Sony and Microsoft consoles is set, Rockstar Games has not yet disclosed the official storage space required to install the game on either system. The studio has also made no official announcement regarding the development or launch window for a personal computer (PC) version, which remains the subject of industry speculation pointing to the first quarter of 2027.
