New Mitsubishi sports utility vehicle achieves consumption of 24 km per liter with hybrid engine
Mitsubishi Motors presented the electric hybrid (HEV) version of the XForce, a compact five-seater SUV, at an event held in Bangkok, at Tailândia. The model reaches the local market with production starting in the Laem Chabang industrial hub, which serves both domestic demand and exports to other countries in the ASEAN region. The automaker is betting on the new hybrid package to gain space in the compact sports utility vehicle segment, where the demand for economical and versatile options is growing steadily.
The launch took place in March 2025, with reservations opening immediately and public viewing at Bangkok International Motor Show. The XForce HEV is part of the brand’s line of electrified vehicles, following the Xpander HEV and Xpander Cross HEV models introduced the previous year. The strategy reinforces Mitsubishi’s commitment to non-plug-in hybrid technologies, prioritizing efficiency without the need for external recharging.
The e:Motion hybrid system combines a 1.6-liter Atkinson-cycle MIVEC gasoline engine with 95 hp and 134 Nm with an electric motor with 116 hp (85 kW) and 255 Nm maximum torque. The lithium-ion battery powers the electric drive, enabling responsive acceleration and EV mode operation at low speeds. The set delivers smooth and strong performance, with the thermal engine acting mainly as a generator to maintain the load and assist with greater power demands.
The vehicle achieves an average consumption of approximately 24.4 km/l, one of the best rates in its category, thanks to the thermal optimization of the engine that exceeds 40% efficiency and the use of an electric water pump to reduce auxiliary losses. Front-wheel drive maintains mechanical simplicity, while seven driving modes adapt behavior to different conditions, including options for urban use, highway use and uneven terrain.
Technical characteristics of the hybrid set
The electric motor provides immediate torque for agile exits in traffic. The regenerative system captures energy during braking and deceleration to recharge the battery. Integration between engines ensures seamless transitions between operating modes.
The configuration prioritizes electric mode at low and medium speeds, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The combustion engine kicks in efficiently when needed.
Production and availability in the Thai market
Manufacturing takes place at the Laem Chabang plant, operated by Mitsubishi Motors Thailand. Deliveries began in April 2025, after series production began.
The model is available in three versions, with prices starting from 899,000 baht (approximately equivalent to R$118,000 in conversion at the time) up to 1,089,000 baht for the top of the line. The structure maintains compact dimensions, measuring 4,390 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,660 mm high, in addition to a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
The ground clearance is 183 mm, suitable for urban roads and roads with moderate irregularities. 18-inch Rodas and larger diameter tires contribute to stability and reduced rolling resistance.
Design and development concept
The XForce HEV follows the “best-suited buddy for an exciting life” concept, aimed at users looking for versatility in everyday life. The “Silky & Solid” design combines elegant lines with visual robustness, maintaining the brand’s identity.
Elements such as a distinctive front grille and bumpers with extensions identify the hybrid version. The interior offers space for five occupants, with practical finishes and a focus on comfort.
Recognition and market performance
The model received the Thailand Car of the Year 2025 award, granted by Thai Automotive Journalists Association in November 2025. The award highlights the combination of economy, performance and suitability for regional use.
The achievement marks the first time that Mitsubishi has achieved this recognition at Tailândia. The vehicle also achieved five stars in ASEAN NCAP, reinforcing safety standards.
Security and embedded technologies
The Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing package includes advanced assistants such as automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning and adaptive cruise control on some versions. Seis airbags protect occupants.
The multimedia system supports connectivity and offers multi-speaker audio for a better onboard experience.
Planned expansion to other markets
Thai production facilitates exports to neighboring countries in ASEAN. Mitsubishi plans to introduce the XForce HEV in other regions, expanding the offering of affordable hybrid options.
