Apple began distributing iOS 18.1 this Wednesday, November 5, 2025, for compatible models starting with the iPhone 11. The update, measuring approximately 2.6 GB, introduces interface refinements and security fixes, meeting demands for stability after the initial release of iOS 18. Developers and beta testers reported improvements in tactile and visual responses, without the need for an immediate restart.

How to install the update on the device

Users access iOS 18.1 directly through the Settings app, in the General section and then Software Update. The process downloads the file in the background and installs it within minutes, depending on your Wi-Fi connection.

Automatic download option enables minor updates without interruption, making maintenance easier.

Reports indicate that the update corrects slowdowns in older models, such as the iPhone 11.

Supported Templates and Minimum Requirements

iOS 18.1 operates on iPhones released since 2019, including the 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 series. Second and third generation SE devices also receive the package, as long as they have an A13 Bionic processor or higher.

  • iPhonand 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max: Full support for new display tools.
  • Series 12 to 15: Includes battery and performance optimizations.
  • iPhone 16 and recent models: Integrate dedicated camera buttons with improved adjustments.

Pre-check on device confirms eligibility, avoiding compatibility errors.

Improved interface features

Version 18.1 adds a toggle in the settings menu to switch between “bright” and “color adjustment” modes in the Liquid Glass effect, which modifies screen contrast and opacity. This functionality responds to feedback about visibility in varied environments, allowing quick customization without extra apps.

Lock screen gestures now disable camera swipe, reducing accidental activations during everyday use. Dedicated buttons on models like the iPhone 16 maintain direct access.

Haptic notifications for connected or ended calls can be silenced, improving focus in quiet moments.

Alarm updates prevent involuntary deactivations, with a more intuitive interface for snooze.

Security and privacy changes

Apple implements Background Security Improvements, a system that downloads and applies security patches in the background, without requiring manual action. This evolution of Rapid Security Responses allows updates to be removed if problems are detected, granting control to the user.

Vulnerabilities in Siri and shortcuts receive fixes, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive data.

Private browsing mode in Safari gains extra protections against tracking, aligning with global privacy standards.

  • Automatic patches: Enabled by default, cover emerging threats in hours.
  • Optional removal: Users roll back improvements if they affect performance.
  • Integration with apps: Affects shortcuts and assistants without impacting existing flows.

These measures strengthen defense against known exploits without changing everyday use.

Early user reports on performance

Tests on a variety of devices show gains of up to 0.1% in battery life compared to the previous version, especially on iPhones with the A15 chip.

Updates resolve warm-ups in intense tasks like photo editing.

However, some report the need for a reboot to stabilize the system post-installation.
