Fans transformed Grand Theft Auto IV into a visual experience close to current generation through a mod that uses RTX Remix technology. The GTA IV RTX Remix Compatibility Mod project introduces full path tracing, advanced reflections and real-time global illumination to the game originally released in 2008. The result profoundly alters the appearance of Liberty City without modifying the original models or textures.
The modification is now available for free download and includes an automatic installer that makes the process easier. Independent Desenvolvedores managed to make the RAGE engine compatible with the Nvidia remastering system launched in 2023.
Lighting receives complete upgrade
Path tracing replaces the original raster lighting system with calculations based on physical ray tracing. Wet Superfícies now display accurate reflections of the environment and moving vehicles.
The rain gains depth with drops that interact correctly with street lights and headlights. Luzes neon reflects realistically in puddles and car bodies.
Main visual improvements implemented
- Real-time reflections on all shiny surfaces
- Indirect global illumination with multiple light bounces
- Soft, accurate shadows on all objects in the scene
- Depth effect in indoor and outdoor areas
The mod maintains full fidelity to the original Rockstar Games assets.
Installation became accessible to the general public
Developers created an executable installer that performs all configurations automatically. The process only requires the full version of the game and updated Nvidia drivers.
Users must have an RTX 20 series or higher graphics card to activate path tracing. The built-in FreeCam tool allows you to explore Liberty City without movement limitations.
The package includes ready-made presets for different levels of graphics quality.
Performance demands cutting-edge hardware
Tests carried out with the RTX 5080 show an average rate of 45 fps in 4K with native path tracing. DLSS 3.7’s Ativação with Frame Generation increases performance above 100 fps while maintaining close quality.
RTX 4070 cards achieve a stable 60 fps at 1440p with upscaling enabled. Recommended Configurações include DLSS Quality and mandatory Frame Generation.
Players with RTX 3060 can run at 1080p with 40-50 fps using DLSS Performance.
Path tracing technical details
The RTX Remix completely replaces the original RAGE engine rendering pipeline. Cada frame calculates millions of rays to determine exact light behavior in real time.
PBR materials were automatically generated from the original textures. The system automatically recognizes metal, glass and water surfaces.
Developers manually adjusted more than 300 materials for greater visual accuracy.
Extra features included in the package
Modders added free camera mode with full motion controls. Ferramenta allows you to capture images from any angle of the recreated city.
Preset optimized for 4K 60 fps video capture is available. Configuração specific for streaming maintains stability in long transmissions.
The package weighs approximately 8 GB and installs in less than five minutes.
Minimum and recommended requirements
RTX 2060 card allows basic execution with path tracing limited to 30 fps at 1080p. Processador Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel i5-12400F meets minimum requirement.
NVMe SSD storage becomes mandatory to avoid crashes during loading. 16 GB of dual channel RAM represents the minimum functional configuration.
Windows 11 operating system receives full support for the latest RTX Remix versions.
The Grand Theft Auto IV community has received one of the biggest fan-created visual updates since the game’s launch. The project demonstrates the current ability of RTX Remix technology to revitalize classic titles without the need for official remastering by the developer.
