Xiaomi has scheduled the official launch on December 25th at China of its newest high-end smartphone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra. The device hits the market with the promise of redefining mobile photography, bringing as its main highlight a 200 megapixel telephoto camera system and advanced continuous optical zoom technology, developed to eliminate the loss of quality when approaching.

This innovation represents a significant step towards bringing the performance of smartphones closer to that of professional cameras. The collaboration with the renowned optics brand Leica was deepened, resulting in high-precision components and an APO certification, which guarantees the correction of chromatic aberrations. The global launch of the device is scheduled for March 2026, with a presentation expected during Mobile World Congress, one of the main technology events in the world.

The new Xiaomi model features a triple set of cameras on the back, prioritizing the quality and performance of each sensor over the quantity of lenses. Essa strategy aims to deliver superior results in various lighting conditions and usage scenarios, consolidating the brand’s position in the premium segment. The expectation is that the device will establish a new standard of photographic excellence in the market.

Photographic innovation with continuous zoom

The key feature of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera system is its 200 MP periscopic telephoto lens, which offers truly continuous optical zoom. Diferente of the hybrid systems that combine fixed lenses with digital zoom to cover intermediate distances, the technology used in the device uses a mechanism of moving lenses and mirrors. Este system allows you to adjust the focal length fluidly and mechanically, varying between approximately 3x and 4.3x pure optical approximation, which corresponds to focal lengths from 70 mm to 100 mm. In practice, this means that the full 200-megapixel resolution is maintained at any point within this range, ensuring sharp, detailed images without the need for digital interpolation, a process that often degrades image quality. Essa capability allows for more versatile captures, from portraits with natural background blur to photos of distant objects with exceptional clarity.

Deep partnership with Leica

The collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica has evolved to a new level, being described as an advanced model of co-creation. The most notable result is APO (apochromatic) certification for the telephoto lens, a distinction usually reserved for high-end photography equipment. Essa certification ensures that the lens is capable of focusing three wavelengths of light (red, green and blue) on the same plane, significantly minimizing chromatic aberrations.

The absence of color distortions, such as purple or green fringing that can appear in high contrast areas, results in images with superior color fidelity and greater sharpness. Essa optical precision, combined with Xiaomi’s image processing software, positions the 17 Ultra as a powerful tool for discerning photographers seeking professional quality in a mobile device.

Camera array details

In addition to the revolutionary telephoto lens, the main sensor of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is also impressive. The device uses the OmniVision OV50X sensor, which has a physical size of 1 inch and a resolution of 50 megapixels. Esse large component is capable of capturing more light, which translates into better performance in dark environments and lower noise.

The sensor’s built-in LOFIC (Lateral Isso prevents the sky from becoming “blown out” or dark parts of the image from losing information, resulting in more balanced and realistic photos.

The rear set is completed by an ultra-wide camera, also with 50 megapixels, ensuring versatility to capture everything from wide landscapes to group photos without distorting the edges of the image. On the front, a 50-megapixel selfie camera ensures high-definition self-portraits and superior quality for video calls.

The design of the camera module is circular and centralized, highlighting the Leica brand and giving the device a sophisticated visual identity. The refined finish will be available in colors such as black, white and a special edition called starry green, reinforcing its exclusive character.

State-of-the-art performance

To manage high-resolution image processing and ensure a fluid usage experience, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The processor’s advanced architecture enables complex multitasking, such as graphics-intensive gaming and 4K video editing, without compromising speed or battery life. The presence of this hardware component is also expected in other flagship devices on the market, such as the Galaxy S26 Ultra, establishing a new performance standard for the premium smartphone segment.

The device’s display complements the high-performance hardware, offering an immersive visual experience. Trata features an approximately 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel with 2K resolution, which provides sharp images and vibrant colors. LTPO technology allows the refresh rate to dynamically vary up to 120Hz, adjusting to the displayed content to save power. The display’s thin bezels and flat design maximize usable area and contribute to a sleek, modern aesthetic ideal for media consumption and productivity.

Advanced connectivity and software

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is future-proofed with a full suite of connectivity technologies. The device is IP69 certified, the highest degree of protection against the ingress of dust and high pressure and temperature water jets, ensuring durability in adverse conditions. Outro important feature is satellite calling support, which allows communication in remote areas without cellular network coverage.

In terms of wireless connection, the device supports Wi-Fi 7, which offers higher speeds and lower latency, and Bluetooth 6.0, for a stable connection with accessories. The operating system is HyperOS 3.0, based on Android 16, which integrates artificial intelligence optimizations to improve the user experience, especially in photography and system resource management.

Autonomy and fast charging

One of the highlights of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is its large capacity battery, which can reach 6,800 mAh. Esse value represents a considerable increase compared to previous generations and many direct competitors, promising extended autonomy even under intense use. The combination of a robust battery with the efficiency of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor ensures that the user can spend more time away from the socket.

When recharging is necessary, the device supports 100 W fast wired charging, capable of taking the battery from 0 to 100% in a short time. Além Additionally, wireless charging support adds an extra layer of convenience.

Even housing such a large battery, the Xiaomi’s engineering managed to keep the device with a thickness of approximately 8 mm, finding an ideal balance between energy capacity, portability and elegant design.

Structure and finish

The design of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra reflects its position as a premium product, with a finish that uses high-quality materials and a solid structure. Weighing around 227 grams, the device conveys a feeling of robustness and sophistication. The transition to a flat screen with minimal edges and a back with a straighter design differentiates the model from previous generations, which focused on accentuated curves, in line with current trends in the luxury market.
