The China regulatory authority has certified new versions of the BYD Seagull and Dolphin electric hatchbacks. The updates include the incorporation of a LiDAR sensor with an effective range of 350 meters. The models also adopt the Nvidia Orin computing platform, with a processing capacity of 254 TOPS. Essa configuration integrates the DiPilot 300 advanced assistance system, known locally as Olho of Deus level B.

The changes mark the expansion of technologies previously reserved for premium vehicles from the brand and its subsidiary Denza. Entry-level hatchbacks now have improved awareness of the environment. LiDAR, provided by Robosense, enables accurate detection at greater distances.

Expansion of technology into affordable models

The two models are part of BYD’s Ocean series and are sold globally. The Seagull is known in other markets as the Dolphin Mini, Dolphin Surf or Atto 1. In early 2025, both received the DiPilot 100 system, based on cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors.

The addition of LiDAR represents a significant leap in driver assistance capabilities. The equipment is installed on the ceiling. Essa configuration maintains the focus on security and efficiency for the entry segment.

The system allows functions such as autonomous navigation on highways and cities. The combination of hardware and software improves response in complex scenarios.

Technical details of the updated BYD Dolphin

The certified BYD Dolphin features a version with a single 136 hp engine. The maximum speed reaches 160 km/h. The battery uses BYD’s own lithium-iron-phosphate technology, although the exact capacity has not been disclosed.

The dimensions remain unchanged: 4,280 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,570 mm high. The wheelbase reaches 2,700 mm. Essas specifications guarantee adequate internal space for the segment.

The model has already achieved significant milestones in the Chinese market. In December 2025, it reached the mark of 1 million units sold.

BYD Seagull Specifications and Performance

The BYD Seagull maintains a compact configuration with dimensions of 3,780 mm in length, 1,715 mm in width and 1,550 mm in height. The wheelbase measures 2,500 mm. The curb weight varies between 1,150 kg and 1,240 kg, depending on the version.

The hatchback runs on 15 or 16-inch wheels. Maximum speed is limited to 130 km/h. The electric motor delivers a power of 60 kW, equivalent to around 80 hp.
