BYD reinforced its offensive in the European market by presenting the plug-in hybrid version of the Seal during the Salão of Munique. The model, which adopts the station wagon body, known as Touring, arrives with the promise of combining energy efficiency, great autonomy and generous internal space, characteristics highly valued by consumers on the continent.

The vehicle’s highlight is its ability to travel up to 1,350 kilometers on a single tank of fuel and the battery fully charged, according to the European WLTP test cycle. Além extended autonomy, the station wagon stands out for its 675-liter trunk capacity, positioning itself as a competitive option for families looking for versatility and low operating costs.

The debut of the Seal 6 DM-i Touring, as it is officially called, comes at a time of accelerated expansion of Chinese automakers in the Europa. BYD, which began its commercial operations in the region in 2025, uses the event to demonstrate the maturity of its technology and compete directly with traditional brands already established in the family vehicle segment.

Super dm-i hybrid technology in detail

The heart of the Seal Touring is the Super DM-i hybrid system, developed by BYD itself. Essa technology was designed to prioritize the use of the electric motor most of the time, especially on urban journeys and at lower speeds. The combustion engine, a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, comes into action mainly as a generator to recharge the battery or to provide additional power in situations of greater demand, such as on highways.

Electrical energy is stored in the renowned Blade battery, which uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Essa composition is known to offer greater fire safety and a longer lifespan compared to other lithium-ion battery chemistries. The plug-in system allows the battery to be recharged from external sources, such as residential sockets or public chargers, maximizing use in pure electric mode.

Focus on space and family practicality

Measuring 4.85 meters in length and with a wheelbase of 2.79 meters, the BYD Seal Touring offers a spacious interior environment, capable of comfortably accommodating five adult passengers. The generous dimensions guarantee good leg and shoulder space, both for those traveling in the front seats and for those in the rear seat.

The main attraction for the family audience is, without a doubt, the 675-liter trunk. Esse volume easily surpasses many sedans and even some medium SUVs, making the station wagon an extremely functional option for long trips or for transporting luggage and bulky equipment on a daily basis.

To further increase versatility, the rear seats fold in a 60/40 ratio, allowing the expansion of the cargo area to transport larger objects. The interior also features multiple USB-C ports and a 50-watt wireless cell phone charger, meeting the connectivity needs of all occupants.

Performance combined with high efficiency

The Seal Touring powertrain delivers a combined power that can reach 218 hp in the most powerful configurations, with a maximum torque of 32.2 kgfm. Esses numbers guarantee safe acceleration and agile responses when overtaking on roads, providing confident driving in different situations.

The system is made up of a 101 hp 1.5 liter aspirated engine, which acts as a support and generator, and a main electric motor whose power can vary between 163 hp and 218 hp, depending on the version chosen. Essa configuration allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 8 seconds.

To preserve efficiency, top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h. BYD will offer the model at Europa with different battery capacities, with the intermediate option capable of providing up to 150 km of autonomy in purely electric mode, ideal for daily commuting without wasting fuel.

The approved fuel consumption is one of the strong points, varying between 23.5 km/l and an impressive 31.7 km/l in a mixed cycle, depending on the conditions of use and the battery charge level. Esses values place the Seal Touring among the most economical vehicles in its category.

Strategic expansion of byd on the European continent

The launch of the Seal Touring is a calculated move within BYD’s ambitious expansion strategy in the Europa. The continent has a strong tradition in the consumption of station wagons, and offering a competitive product in this segment is essential to gain market share. By presenting a plug-in hybrid model, the brand reaches an audience that seeks the transition to electrification, but that still values the practicality of a combustion engine for long journeys, eliminating the so-called “range anxiety”. The company is investing heavily not only in products, but also in building a robust network of dealerships and service centers to ensure the trust of European consumers, known for their high level of demand.

The competition is fierce, with brands like Volkswagen, Skoda, Peugeot and BMW dominating the station wagon segment for decades. Para differentiates itself, BYD is betting on an aggressive value proposition, combining modern design, a technological package full of standard equipment and competitively positioned prices. The long-term strategy includes local production of vehicles at a factory in Hungria, which will help reduce logistics costs, avoid import tariffs and strengthen BYD’s image as a global manufacturer with a strong regional presence, adapted to local market needs and preferences.

An interior full of connectivity and security

The Seal Touring’s cabin stands out for its fusion of advanced technology and a functional, elegant design. The centerpiece is BYD’s iconic rotating multimedia display, which can be used both vertically and horizontally, providing versatility for navigation and entertainment systems. With full compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the system guarantees fluid integration with smartphones. In front of the driver, a fully digital and configurable instrument panel displays all essential driving information, including detailed data on energy consumption and hybrid system flow. Safety is treated as a priority, with the inclusion of a complete package of driver assistance systems (ADAS), which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistant and cameras with 360-degree vision to facilitate maneuvers. Onboard comfort is complemented by a high-power wireless charger (50W), multiple USB-C ports, a premium sound system and customizable ambient lighting.

Crucial differences for the all-electric version

Despite carrying the same name, the plug-in hybrid Seal Touring has a different proposal from the 100% electric sedan version, which is already sold in several markets, including the Brasil. Enquanto o Seal EV focuses on high performance, with variants that deliver up to 531 hp and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, the hybrid station wagon was designed with a focus on versatility, efficiency for long distances and practicality for family use, offering a more balanced package for everyday life.
