Google began a significant expansion in the migration of reminders from the Keep application to Google Tasks starting in January 2026. Usuários receive notifications that existing reminders have been converted to tasks.

The change centralizes appointment management in Tasks, better integrating them with other company services. Novos reminders created in Keep are saved directly as tasks in Tasks from the previous year. Essa phase expands the reach to millions of accounts that had not yet received the update.

The migration maintains most of the original functionalities, but introduces some technical adaptations. Usuários can continue to access items from multiple Google applications.

How automatic reminder transfer works

Migration occurs without manual intervention in most cases. Quando activated on an account, the system transfers all date or time-based reminders to a specific list in Google Tasks. The Essa list is named “Google Keep’s Old Reminders” for easier identification.

Each migrated task includes a “Do Keep” label that allows you to directly open the original note in the note-taking app. Edições of date, time or completion reflect on all connected services, such as Calendar and Assistant. However, changes to the note title in Keep do not automatically update the corresponding task.

These options remain available when setting up new reminders on Keep.

Key changes for Keep users

Location-based reminders lose native support during migration. Tasks does not offer geolocated notifications, so location information is converted to plain text in the task description. Usuários who depended on this feature need to manually adjust tasks after the transfer.

Notifications are now managed exclusively by Tasks or Calendar. Keep stops sending independent alerts, even though the reminder still appears in the original note. Essa centralization prevents duplication and ensures consistency across Android devices, iOS and the web.

Technical limits also apply to the process. Contas with more than 100 thousand tasks does not migrate the oldest reminders. Títulos that are too long are automatically shortened to fit the format of Tasks.

Expanded integration with other services

Migrated tasks gain greater visibility in the company’s ecosystem. Elas appear directly in the Google Calendar interface, facilitating daily planning. The Assistant recognizes items and allows voice dialing on compatible devices.

The Gemini application also displays tasks for quick reference. Essa Multiple connectivity allows users to manage appointments without constantly switching between apps. The change reinforces the previously announced strategy of unifying productivity tools.

Google Workspace corporate accounts follow the same pattern, as long as the Tasks service is activated by the administrator. Organizações with specific restrictions may temporarily delay or block the migration.

Advantages of centralization on Google Tasks

Tasks offers a more robust structure for list management compared to Keep’s reminder system. Usuários can create subtasks, add extensive details, and organize across multiple projects. The migration preserves the original content while adding these extra capabilities.

Real-time synchronization between devices improves the mobile and desktop experience. Alterações made on a cell phone are immediately reflected in the web version. Essa consistency reduces common errors in separate tools.

Unification reduces redundancies in the Google application portfolio. Manter reminders in a single core service simplifies future updates and integration with artificial intelligence.

What happens to new reminders created in Keep

Creating a reminder on Keep now opens an updated interface with an Tasks icon. The system saves the item directly as a task, maintaining a link with the original note. Usuários see immediate confirmation that the reminder has been stored in the new location.

Quick scheduling options remain identical to the previous ones. The main difference is in subsequent management, which directs to Tasks. Essa gradual transition prepares users for exclusive use of the task app.

Existing notes without a reminder will not be changed. Keep remains fully functional for notes, lists, and real-time collaboration.

Recommended steps after receiving the migration

Users who see the confirmation pop-up should open Google Tasks to check the new list. Organização manual of migrated tasks helps with the smooth transition. Criar categories or moving items to specific lists improves control.

Reviewing old reminders identifies possible necessary adjustments. Casos with localization converted to text may require manual editing. Testar notifications on different devices confirm correct operation.

Updating applications Keep and Tasks guarantees access to the latest versions. Migration depends on active connection to Google servers for full completion.

Technical differences between the two systems

Tasks supports more complex hierarchy with multiple lists and nested subtasks. Keep’s reminder system was simpler, focused on quick alerts linked to notes. Essa Evolution offers advanced tools without losing access to original content.

Task repetition gains more flexible options in Tasks. Configurações daily, weekly or customized are available directly. Keep limited some of these possibilities in previous versions.

Collaboration on corporate tasks benefits from native integration with Workspace. Compartilhamento of lists allows for more efficient teamwork than the previous model.

Experience on different platforms

In Android, tasks appear in the Calendar sidebar and in the dedicated widget. Usuários iOS access via the Tasks app or integration with the native Calendar. Versão web offers complete interface for detailed management.

Limited offline sync allows basic viewing without internet. Conexão restores pending changes automatically. Essa functionality maintains productivity when traveling or in areas without coverage.

Voice assistant on smart displays recognizes commands related to migrated tasks. Perguntas simple things like “what are my tasks today” return updated lists.

Future of task management in the Google ecosystem

Centering on Tasks paves the way for additional AI-based capabilities. Integração deeper with Gemini can suggest priorities or rearrange lists automatically. Atualizações plans are expected to expand these capabilities in the coming months.

Maintaining the link with Keep notes preserves complete history. Usuários access original context without losing detailed information. Essa hybrid approach balances innovation with continuity.

Gradual expansion avoids server overload and allows for quick fixes. Feedback collected during rollout guides final adjustments before full completion.
