The Jeep positions the Compass Blackhawk as the new top-of-the-line version in its mid-size SUV range, focused on delivering unprecedented sporting performance for the segment. Equipado with the powerful 2.0 Hurricane turbo engine with 272 hp and permanent all-wheel drive, the model hits the market with a suggested price of R$274,290, after a recent readjustment of values. The brand’s proposal is to combine high performance with the versatility necessary for daily use by families who do not give up on more vigorous driving.

Replacing the old Overland Hurricane configuration, the Blackhawk version consolidates itself as the most powerful and exclusive option in the Compass line. Atualmente, no direct competitor in the market for medium SUVs with a combustion engine offers a similar level of power, which puts the model in a prominent position. At the same time, the vehicle maintains the characteristics already known from the Compass, such as good internal space and a complete list of comfort and technology equipment.

The performance figures confirm the model’s sporting vocation. In acceleration tests, the SUV is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds, a mark comparable to that of many sports sedans. Power delivery occurs in a progressive and controlled manner, thanks to the engine working together with the nine-speed automatic transmission, which has been calibrated to extract the maximum from the engine without compromising comfort in urban use situations.

Hurricane Engine Details and Performance

The heart of the Compass Blackhawk is the 2.0 Hurricane engine, an in-line four-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 272 hp at 5,200 rpm and a torque of 40.8 kgfm at 3,000 rpm. Essa configuration raises the SUV’s performance level, considerably distancing it from versions equipped with the 185 hp 1.3 turbo engine. The mechanical package was designed to offer quick responses at low speeds, a feat aided by the dual-flow turbo and variable geometry, which minimizes acceleration delay time.

The permanent all-wheel drive system distributes force efficiently between the axles, ensuring maximum grip and stability even with the vehicle’s 1,720 kg. Essa feature makes maneuvers such as overtaking and speeding safer and more agile, requiring less effort from the driver. The nine-speed automatic transmission, in turn, prioritizes the highest gears in everyday use to optimize consumption, but the shorter first gears guarantee vigorous starts when the accelerator pedal is most demanded, although there are no specific driving modes such as “Sport” or “Eco” for manual selection.

Fuel consumption in practical tests

The fuel consumption of the Blackhawk directly reflects its high performance proposal. In evaluations carried out in an urban environment, the model recorded an average of 6 km/l using gasoline. Já in road conditions, at cruising speed, the numbers were more encouraging, reaching up to 12 km/l.

Official data released by Inmetro present slightly different values, showing consumption of 8.5 km/l in the city and 10.8 km/l on the highway. The fuel tank with a capacity of 55 liters can limit autonomy in more sporty use, requiring more frequent stops for fuel.

When compared to hybrid rivals, the Compass Blackhawk has higher consumption. However, these competitors do not offer the same visceral response and acceleration performance that has become the main differentiator of the version equipped with the Hurricane engine.

Drivability and dynamic behavior

Built on the Small Wide platform, the Jeep Compass Blackhawk demonstrates remarkable competence on roads, offering directional stability even at higher speeds. The suspension, which received a firmer calibration for this version, efficiently controls body roll in curves without compromising occupant comfort.

The permanent all-wheel drive system plays a fundamental role in delaying the loss of grip in curves, providing safety to the driver. The set is complemented by the electric steering, which is communicative and facilitates the execution of precise maneuvers.

In the urban environment, the SUV absorbs irregularities in the asphalt well, such as holes and ditches, maintaining comfort on board. Low profile tires, measuring 235/45 R19, require a little more attention on poor quality surfaces to avoid damaging the wheels.

A usability detail is the Start/Stop system, which turns off the engine during short stops to save fuel. The system must be manually deactivated each time the vehicle is started again, if the driver prefers not to use it.

Suspension tuned for performance

The suspension set, with a McPherson strut at the front and a multilink at the rear, was recalibrated to deal with the increase in power and torque of the Hurricane engine. Essa new, more rigid configuration, competently balances impact absorption with the need for more sporty dynamic behavior. The result is a vehicle that keeps occupants comfortable during long journeys, but that surprises with its roll control in fast curves, an atypical behavior for a medium SUV. Permanent all-wheel drive helps maintain a stable trajectory, while the well-weighted steering and clear responses inspire confidence. Essa harmony between the components is confirmed by the 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds, validated in tests. The delivery of torque from low revs also facilitates driving in urban traffic, making the model versatile both for daily use and for moments of more enthusiastic driving, rivaling sports sedans in acceleration.

Interior with sporty finish

The cabin of the Blackhawk follows the quality standard introduced in the 2021 restyling, but with exclusive touches that reinforce its sporty proposal. The seats are covered in leather and suede, with pronounced side flaps that hug the body and guarantee better support when cornering. Materiais soft-touch covers the dashboard and front doors.

The 10.25-inch digital instrument panel displays exclusive and sporty graphics, while the 10.1-inch multimedia center offers wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A difference is the inclusion of “Performance Pages”, which displays telemetry data such as G-force, acceleration and inclination of the vehicle in real time.

Complete list of standard equipment

As a top-of-the-line version, the Compass Blackhawk comes with a complete package of comfort and safety equipment. Entre the highlights are the two-zone digital air conditioning, electric panoramic sunroof, face-to-face key with remote start and induction cell phone charger. The list of driver assistance technologies is also extensive.

The model includes adaptive cruise control with function Stop & A rear camera with parking sensors helps with maneuvers, replacing the 360-degree view present in some competitors.

Internal space and functionality

With a wheelbase of 2.63 meters, the Compass offers adequate interior space for rear seat passengers. Pessoas of taller height travel in comfort and with good legroom. The functionality is complemented by dedicated air conditioning outlets and USB ports for the rear occupants, ensuring comfort on longer journeys. The trunk has a capacity of 410 liters and has electric opening and closing, a volume that well meets daily needs, although it is smaller than that of some direct competitors.
