AMD has officially confirmed that the Valve is following the established schedule for the launch of its new Steam Machine, with the first shipments scheduled for early this year. The statement, made by AMD CEO, Lisa Su, during a financial results presentation, solidifies Valve’s return to the dedicated hardware market for living room games, a segment that the company seeks to redefine with a high-performance proposition.

This new device represents a significant evolution compared to the company’s previous initiatives, such as the Steam Deck. The focus now is to offer a premium gaming experience on large screens, competing directly with next-generation consoles and the growing mini gaming PC market, but with the advantage of being fully integrated into the Steam ecosystem.

Valve’s announcement about the product, made at the end of 2025, generated great expectations in the gaming community. The confirmation from the main hardware partner, AMD, serves as a clear sign that development is advanced and that production deadlines are being met, bringing consumers closer to the launch of one of the most anticipated devices in the sector.

Hardware details and processing power

The heart of the new Steam Machine is a custom processor from AMD, which combines the Zen 4 CPU architecture, with six cores and twelve threads, with a powerful graphics unit based on the RDNA 3 architecture. 7600. The set is complemented by 16 GB of DDR5 standard RAM, ensuring agility in executing heavy tasks and games. The Valve highlights that this configuration delivers up to six times more power than the original Steam Deck, enabling the device to run modern games in 4K resolution with stable frame rates and high graphics settings. Storage will not be a problem, with expandable options up to 2TB through dedicated slots, meeting the growing space demands of today’s games.

AMD’s strategic confirmation

Lisa Su’s mention of the project during the call with investors was not casual. By reinforcing that the Valve is on schedule to begin shipping in early 2026, AMD’s CEO not only reassured the market, but also highlighted the strength of the strategic partnership between the two technology giants. Esta collaboration in the development of semi-custom chips is a fundamental pillar for creating optimized hardware capable of extracting maximum performance in a compact and energy-efficient form factor.

For AMD, the success of the Steam Machine represents yet another victory in a market it dominates, providing the core technology for the world’s leading consoles. The company has seen a growing demand for customized solutions and the partnership with Valve reinforces its position as a leader in the gaming processing segment. The confidence expressed by AMD’s leadership is seen by analysts as a positive indication that mass production is proceeding without major obstacles, paving the way for a successful launch.

The return of a revisited concept

The Steam Machines initiative is not new, having originally emerged in 2013 as an attempt by Valve to bring the PC ecosystem into the living room. Naquela time, the proposal was for several manufacturers to create their own models running SteamOS, an operating system based on Linux.

However, initial sales, between 2015 and 2016, did not meet expectations. The complexity of multiple hardware models and still incipient support for games in Linux led many partners to abandon the project, and Valve itself suspended the initiative to reevaluate its hardware strategy.

The current scenario is drastically different. The resounding success of the Steam Deck, launched in 2021, not only validated the public’s interest in Valve hardware, but also provided the company with valuable data and practical experience. The new Steam Machine is born from this learning, applying the lessons from the portable in a format focused on maximum power for TV.

Positioning in the games market

It is crucial to differentiate the new Steam Machine from the Steam Deck. Enquanto o Deck was designed for portability, the new device is strictly stationary, prioritizing use on televisions and monitors. Essa absence of mobility restrictions allows the use of much more robust components and a superior cooling system.

Valve does not position the two devices as competitors, but as complementary products within its ecosystem. A player can use the Steam Deck on the go and, upon arriving home, continue playing on the Steam Machine, taking advantage of 4K resolution and superior graphics performance, with saves and settings synchronized via the cloud.

Relative to traditional consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox, the main advantage of Steam Machine is unrestricted access to an incomparably larger library of PC games. Milhares of titles already existing in the user’s Steam account will be available instantly, without the need to repurchase them.

In the mini gaming PC segment, where brands such as Asus, Lenovo and MSI already operate, the Steam Machine stands out for its native and optimized integration with SteamOS. The user experience promises to be simpler and more direct, similar to that of a console, eliminating the configuration complexities often associated with the Windows system.

Ecosystem and software features

Software is one of Steam Machine’s greatest assets. The device will run an updated version of SteamOS, with the improved Big Picture interface for fluid navigation on large screens. The platform’s consolidated Recursos, such as Remote Play and Family Sharing, will work natively, allowing users to share games with family members or broadcast gameplay to other devices in the home.

Proton technology, a compatibility layer developed by Valve, will continue to be an essential pillar, allowing thousands of games developed for Windows to run with excellent performance. Além Furthermore, the Steam Input system ensures automatic configuration of a wide range of controls, and the “Verified” verification program helps players identify which titles run perfectly on their hardware.

Connectivity and design for the living room

Designed to be the center of digital entertainment in the living room, the new Steam Machine will come equipped with the latest connectivity technologies. HDMI 2.1 support will enable 4K video output at 120Hz, ideal for modern televisions. The inclusion of Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 ensures fast, stable network connections and low latency for wireless peripherals.

The device will also have multiple USB-C ports, which support charging and video output, expanding the possibilities for connecting to accessories. The compact and discreet design was designed to easily integrate into any environment, and compatibility with the Steam Deck’s official docks offers even more flexibility for users who already own the notebook.

Release expectations

Following the pattern of previous Valve launches, bookings for the new Steam Machine are expected to open in the coming weeks, with a queuing system in place to manage high initial demand. Priority regions for launch should include América, Norte and Europa, with gradual expansion to other markets. Although the final price has not yet been revealed, analysts predict that the Valve will seek a price range competitive with new generation consoles, taking advantage of economies of scale in the production of customized components to offer an attractive cost-benefit proposition.
