Volvo has officially announced the arrival of the most powerful version of its new electric compact SUV, the EX30. The Ultra Twin Motor configuration arrives on the market with a proposal focused on high performance, delivering numbers that position it as the fastest accelerating vehicle ever produced by the Swedish brand in its history. The model combines the efficiency of electric propulsion with performance worthy of super sports cars.

Equipped with two electric motors, one on each axle, the vehicle has all-wheel drive (AWD) and a combined power of 428 horsepower. Este mechanical set allows the compact SUV to reach 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, an impressive milestone for the category and for the manufacturer itself, which reinforces its transition to a fully electrified portfolio without giving up the excitement of driving.

The launch expands the EX30 range, which already had single-engine and rear-wheel drive versions, offering consumers an option that combines the practicality of an SUV for urban use with the adrenaline of vigorous acceleration. The Volvo strategy is clear: attract a new audience profile that seeks technology, sustainability and, now, a higher level of sportiness in a compact and premium package.

Detailed performance and powertrain

The impressive 428 hp of power of the Volvo EX30 Force distribution is done intelligently between the front and rear axles, configuring an on-demand all-wheel drive system that optimizes both grip in low stability conditions and energy efficiency in normal driving. In cruising situations, for example, the system can prioritize the rear engine to save battery, activating the front engine only when the need for more traction is detected or during strong acceleration. Essa’s ability to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds not only places it as the fastest Volvo in history, but also makes it competitive with sports models from renowned brands, offering a surprising and dynamic driving experience for an SUV of its dimensions. The maximum speed, following the brand’s safety standards, is electronically limited to 180 km/h.

Battery, autonomy and recharging process

To power the two powerful electric motors, the Volvo EX30 Ultra Twin Motor uses a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack with a capacity of 69 kWh. Segundo the standards of the WLTP test cycle, the estimated autonomy for this version is up to 450 kilometers on a single charge, a competitive number that allows longer trips with greater peace of mind.

The model’s recharging system was designed to offer convenience and speed. In direct current (DC) fast chargers, the EX30 can reach a power of up to 153 kW, which allows the battery to be recharged from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes. Para alternating current (AC) recharges, such as those carried out in residential wallboxes, the onboard charger has a capacity of up to 22 kW, a difference in the segment that allows a considerably shorter complete recharge time compared to competitors that offer powers of 7 kW or 11 kW.

Technology and the minimalist interior

The interior of the Volvo EX30 follows the Scandinavian design philosophy, characterized by minimalism and functionality. The central point of the cabin is a 12.3-inch vertical screen, which operates like a tablet and houses practically all of the vehicle’s controls, from the entertainment and navigation system to climate adjustments and driving settings.

This approach allowed the elimination of most physical buttons and even the traditional instrument panel behind the steering wheel. Essential information, such as speed and range, is displayed at the top of the central screen, keeping the driver’s field of vision as clear as possible.

The operating system is Google Automotive Services, which natively integrates applications such as Google Maps, Google Assistant and Play Store. Isso allows the use of advanced voice commands for various functions and the installation of other applications, such as Spotify and Waze, directly in the car, without the need to mirror a smartphone. 5G connectivity guarantees remote updates (over-the-air) and fluid, fast navigation.

Security as a fundamental pillar of the brand

Volvo has maintained its reputation as a safety leader by equipping the EX30 with a robust suite of driver assistance technologies. The model comes standard with the new generation Pilot Assist system, which assists with steering, acceleration and braking on highways, making trips safer and more comfortable.

An important innovation is the door opening alert. Utilizando radar sensors on the rear, the system warns the driver and passengers with visual and audible alerts if it detects the approach of cyclists, motorcyclists or scooters, helping to prevent common accidents in urban environments.

The vehicle also features Park Pilot Assist, an advanced autonomous parking system capable of identifying and maneuvering the car in parallel, perpendicular, curved and diagonal parking spaces, simplifying one of the most challenging tasks for many drivers.

Additionally, a driver fatigue monitoring system uses an infrared sensor to analyze eye and face movements. Ele can detect signs of distraction or drowsiness and issue alerts so that the driver can regain attention or take a break, reinforcing active safety at all times.

Dimensions and exterior design

The exterior design of the EX30 is modern and faithful to the visual identity of the Volvo, but with proportions that reinforce its agile and urban character. The LED headlights with the signature “Hammer of Thor” have been redesigned, now with a pixelated look that adds a technological touch. The absence of a traditional front grille, replaced by a closed panel in body color, highlights its purely electric nature.

At 4.23 meters long, 1.83 meters wide and with a wheelbase of 2.65 meters, the EX30 is the smallest SUV ever produced by Volvo. Suas compact dimensions, combined with short overhangs (the distance between the wheels and the ends of the car), guarantee excellent maneuverability in urban centers and ease of parking, without significantly compromising internal space.

Sustainability in focus

The Volvo reinforces its commitment to sustainability in the EX30, which is the model with the brand’s lowest carbon footprint to date. Cerca 25% of the aluminum and 17% of the steel and plastics used in its manufacture are recycled. Inside, the materials also follow this premise, with covering options that include fabrics made from recycled jeans, linen and wool, as well as plastics derived from renewable sources, such as PET bottles and repurposed fishing nets.

Versions available on the market

The high-performance version Ultra Twin Motor sits at the top of the Volvo EX30 range. Abaixo, the brand offers other configurations with a single 272 hp electric motor and rear-wheel drive, which also present agile performance, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. Essas versions are available in different trim packages, such as Core, Plus and Ultra, allowing the customer to choose the level of equipment and autonomy that best suits their needs and budget.
