Apple released the iOS 26.3 update with a new privacy setting called Limitar Localização Precisa. Essa option allows users to reduce the amount of location data sent to mobile operators.

The functionality operates by restricting information that cellular networks use to determine the device’s exact position. With it activated, operators receive less precise data, identifying only the general area, such as a neighborhood, instead of a specific address.

The new feature is initially available on selected iPhone and iPad models equipped with a modem designed by Apple. The company highlights that the configuration does not interfere with signal quality or the user experience.

How Precise Location Limiting Works

Cellular networks determine a device’s position based on the transmission towers it connects to. Esse process, known as triangulation, allows you to calculate locations with high precision in urban areas.

By activating the Limitar Localização Precisa option, the operating system restricts part of this data. The measure reduces operators’ ability to obtain exact coordinates, preserving user privacy without compromising connectivity.

Apple explains that the functionality was developed to offer greater control over sensitive information. Ela represents an extension of the data protection initiatives the company has adopted for years.

Devices compatible with the new configuration

The option is restricted to devices with a modem developed internally by Apple, such as the C1 or C1X models. Atualmente, this includes the iPhone Air, iPhone 16e and iPad Pro with M5 chip in version Wi-Fi + Cellular.

These devices represent the first generation equipped with the company’s own connectivity technology. Compatibility also depends on operator support, which varies by country and region.

The expectation is for gradual expansion of functionality. Modelos Futures, such as the iPhone 18 line with C2 chip, should receive native support from launch.

Step by step to activate the functionality

Eligible users can enable the setting directly from the system options. The process is simple and does not require a mandatory restart, although the device may request it in some cases.

  • Go to Ajustes and tap Celular.
  • Select Opções from Dados Celulares.
  • Scroll until you find Limitar Localização Precisa.
  • Activate the corresponding switch.

Upon activation, the restriction takes effect immediately. The option can be deactivated at any time using the same method.

Benefits of the new privacy tool

The setting enforces user control over involuntarily shared location data. Redes cell phones traditionally access this information to optimize services, but it can also be used for other purposes.

With limitation activated, the device continues to function normally in calls, messages and browsing. Apple guarantees that there is no impact on coverage or connection speed.

The measure aligns with other privacy tools already present in the ecosystem. Ela complements features such as Relatório from Privacidade from Apps and Proteção from Rastreamento Inteligente.

Internal hardware control as a differentiator

The functionality is only possible thanks to the development of its own modems by Apple. Essa vertical integration allows fine adjustments that would not be feasible with third-party components.

The company has invested years in designing connectivity chips to reduce dependence on external suppliers. The result includes not only performance improvements but also unique privacy innovations.

The transition to proprietary hardware began with recent models and should be consolidated in the coming years. Isso paves the way for additional features that prioritize user security.

Future expansion and carrier support

Apple plans to expand the configuration’s availability to more devices throughout 2026. The iPhone 18 line should arrive with native support through the new C2 chip.

Support from operators should also grow progressively. Países and Alemanha already have compatibility on specific networks, and other markets follow the same path.

The company works in partnership with carriers to ensure broad implementation. The objective is to make the functionality accessible to as many users as possible.

Importance of location privacy in everyday life

Location data is considered highly sensitive by digital security experts. Eles reveal patterns of behavior, routines and personal preferences when collected on a large scale.

The new configuration provides an additional layer of protection against misuse. Ela meets a growing demand for tools that give control back to device owners.

Similar initiatives already exist on other platforms, but the Apple approach stands out for its direct integration into the hardware. Isso guarantees greater effectiveness compared to software-only solutions.

Other new features present in iOS 26.3

The update brings security fixes and stability improvements to several components. Ela resolves vulnerabilities identified in previous versions of the operating system.

Among the smaller additions are new dynamic wallpapers for the lock screen. The Tempo app receives updated visual styles that adapt to weather conditions.

There are also refinements to data transfer for Android devices. The process gains more options for securely migrating content such as photos and messages.

The update is available for download on all models compatible with iOS 26. Usuários receive automatic notification or can manually search for Ajustes > Geral > Atualização from
