Evidence recently found in the firmware being developed by the South Korean giant points to a significant change in the ergonomics of its future devices. The presence of direct references to a new model in the code for the next system update suggests that the company plans to diversify its portfolio with a device focused on wider screens. The project aims to meet a long-standing consumer demand for external displays that offer greater comfort when typing and browsing without the need to open the equipment.

The technical discovery reveals that the new hardware is being designed to operate natively with the One UI 9 interface, based on the future Android 17. Especialistas who analyzed the configuration files identified the codename H8, associated with a specific nomenclature that differentiates this device from traditional foldables already sold by the brand. The device is expected to reach the global market in mid-2026, marking a new phase in the manufacturer’s strategy for the premium segment.

Structural changes and design

The main innovation of this model lies in the proportion of the external screen, which should adopt a format closer to that of conventional smartphones or competitors that already use the 16:10 standard. Essa design change aims to improve everyday usability, allowing common tasks, such as responding to messages and consuming quick videos, to be performed more naturally on the front screen. The concept eliminates the feeling of horizontal tightness often criticized in current models in the Z Fold line.

The system code classifies the device with a distinct flag, indicating that the software will behave differently to take advantage of the extra width. Quando open, the device should offer a more square internal viewing area, optimized for multitasking and productivity. The adaptation of the graphical interface suggests that the company is investing heavily to ensure that applications move fluidly between open and closed modes, taking advantage of the additional space to display more information.

Market context and competition

The move by Samsung comes as a direct response to the growth of rivals that have invested in wider formats since the beginning. Fabricantes like Google and Honor gained prominence for offering foldables that function as normal cell phones when closed and as compact tablets when opened. The introduction of a “Wide” model in the South Korean company’s portfolio demonstrates its intention to recover ground on this specific ergonomic preference, without abandoning the traditional line that already has a loyal user base.

The planned commercial strategy involves the simultaneous launch of this new format alongside regular updates of the Z Fold and Z Flip lines. The initial production volume estimated at one million units indicates confidence in the acceptance of the product. Distribution should occur in key markets, including Estados Unidos, Europa and Ásia, positioning the device not as a luxury limited edition, but as a viable and affordable alternative within the foldable category.

Specifications and expected performance

While full technical details are still under wraps, the link to One UI 9 suggests cutting-edge hardware primed for AI processing. The set of cameras must follow the brand’s standard of excellence, while the battery will receive optimizations to deal with the energy consumption of larger screens. Integration with the Galaxy ecosystem will continue to be a central pillar, ensuring connectivity with watches, headphones and tablets from the same family.

Validation testing is already underway, as indicated by the software build versions found. The existence of regional variants in the certification databases reinforces that the project is progressing according to schedule. With the evolution of components and hinges, the new model promises to deliver durability and a refined user experience, consolidating the company’s leadership in the flexible devices sector.
