Apple smartphone owners face a wave of technical instability after installing the latest software package made available by the company. What was supposed to be a routine update aimed at compatibility with the new AirTag 2 has turned into a source of widespread frustration for the user base. Relatos in specialized forums and social networks indicate that version 26.2.1 of the operating system brought critical flaws that compromise everything from energy autonomy to the biometric security of devices.

The situation is made worse by the fact that the technology giant has ended the digital signature of the previous version, iOS 26.2. Isso means that, in practice, consumers who have updated their devices find themselves in a digital “dead end”, unable to carry out the rollback process, technically known as downgrade, to restore the normal functionality of their phones while they wait for an official fix.

The manufacturer’s initial silence about the extent of the damage has generated severe criticism from the technical community and digital influencers, who recommend extreme caution to users who have not yet carried out the update procedure on their equipment.

Battery Draining and Overheating on Premium Models

Among the most recurring complaints registered in the last 48 hours, excessive energy consumption stands out, which disproportionately affects the most sophisticated models in the range, including the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Usuários report that device load plummets even when the device is in standby mode, suggesting that background processes are operating out of control after the update.

In addition to the drastic reduction in autonomy, there are frequent reports of overheating during basic tasks, such as browsing social networks or exchanging messages. The new software’s inefficient thermal management appears to force the processor to work at higher frequencies than necessary, generating excessive heat and harming the battery’s long-term health.

Experts point out that this optimization failure contradicts recent industry efforts to make devices more energy efficient. The expectation is that an emergency fix will be necessary to stop the loss of performance, as the daily usability of premium devices has been severely impacted.

Face ID crashes and browser instability

Security and internet browsing were also compromised by version 26.2.1. The facial recognition system, Face ID, has intermittent errors, forcing users to enter their numeric passwords repeatedly to unlock the screen or authorize digital payments. Essa flaw represents a setback in the convenience that the ecosystem promises, as well as raising concerns about the integrity of the software’s security modules.

At the same time, the native browser Safari became unstable for a significant portion of users. The application closes unexpectedly during use, resulting in the loss of open tabs and unsaved form data. The fragmented browsing experience forces consumers to look for third-party alternatives to perform searches or access banking services without abrupt interruptions.

The phantom storage bug

One of the most unusual and damaging issues identified in this compilation involves internal storage management. The operating system mistakenly starts to require around 30 GB of free space immediately after the update. The software issues constant “storage full” alerts, preventing the installation of new applications or the capture of photos and videos.

Even when the user deletes large files or uninstalls programs to free up space, the error persists. The system does not recognize the memory release, keeping the device in a state of functional shutdown. Técnicos suggest that this is a file indexing error in the core of the system, something that cannot be resolved by simple actions by the end user.

This erratic storage behavior has caused losses to professionals who depend on the iPhone for work, making it impossible to download documents and manage media essential for their productive routines.

Connectivity issues and recommendations

The stability of wireless connections has also suffered degradation. Relatórios indicate frequent drops in the Wi-Fi signal and instability in mobile data networks, making it difficult to make video calls and stream content. The failure in connectivity partially isolates the device, transforming high-end smartphones into devices with limited usefulness.

Given the scenario of uncertainty and the impossibility of returning to the previous stable version, the unanimous recommendation of technology experts is to avoid immediate updating. Para those who have already installed iOS 26.2.1, can only wait for the release of a corrective patch, which should be prioritized by the company’s engineering team in the coming days.

The incident reinforces the importance of keeping backups up to date and waiting for community feedback before installing new versions of operating systems, even those described as minor or compatibility updates.
