Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed the launch of new hardware aimed at the high-performance segment of the gaming market. The device, scheduled to debut on North American shelves on November 7, arrives with the aim of eliminating the need to choose between visual fidelity and fluidity of movement modes. With a price set at $699.99, the equipment is positioned as a luxury option within the brand’s ecosystem, bringing significant changes to its internal architecture to ensure more immersive experiences.

The main focus of this mid-gen upgrade lies in graphics processing capabilities and the introduction of proprietary artificial intelligence technologies. The manufacturer seeks to provide consumers with a platform capable of dealing with developers’ growing demands for greater realism, without compromising the stability of the frame rate per second, a crucial factor for competitive gameplay and immersion in complex narratives.

Technical innovations and processing power

The architecture of the new device presents a considerable evolution compared to the original model, highlighting a graphics processing unit (GPU) that incorporates 67% more computing units. Juntamente with 28% faster system memory, the console can render games up to 45% faster. Essa extra power is managed by an x86-64 AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU processor with 8 cores and 16 threads, ensuring that the system operates smoothly even in highly visually complex scenarios.

One of the big differences announced is the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology. Este feature uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to upscale images, providing ultra-high definition visual clarity. The system analyzes the image pixel by pixel to add extraordinary details, correcting jaggies and imperfections that could appear in lower native resolutions, increasing the final quality presented on the user’s screen.

Lighting treatment has also received special attention with dramatic improvements in Ray Tracing. The new engineering allows reflections and refraction of light to be calculated at double, and in specific situations even triple, the speed found in previous hardware. Para sustain all this performance, the console operates with a graphics card based on AMD’s RDNA architecture, reaching 16.7 TFLOPS, supported by 16GB of GDDR6 memory for the system and 2GB of DDR5 dedicated to background tasks, with a maximum consumption estimated at 390W.

Optimized library and ecosystem

To take advantage of the new firepower, several titles will receive free updates, being identified with a specific improvement seal for the new console. The initial list of games that will benefit from the improvements includes big hits like Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Compatibility with existing accessories has been preserved, allowing players to use their DualSense controllers, the Edge model, the PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset, and the PlayStation Portal remote device without any barriers. Além Furthermore, the new model takes a modular approach to physical media, supporting the Blu-ray

Expanded connectivity and storage

In response to the growing file sizes of modern games, the manufacturer has doubled the internal storage capacity, equipping the console with a custom 2TB SSD. Essa expansion aims to allow users to keep a larger library installed simultaneously, reducing the need for constant disk space management.

Connectivity has also been updated to support the Wi-Fi 7 standard, ensuring faster data transfers and a more stable connection during online matches. Essa improvement is essential to minimize latency in competitive games and speed up the download of large files, completing the package of improvements that defines this new stage in the current generation of consoles.
