Apple has started distributing the first test version of iOS 26.3, aimed at both developers and participants in the public software program. The movement occurs shortly after the stabilization of the previous version and marks a significant step by the company towards greater opening of its ecosystem, meeting long-standing demands from the market and regulatory bodies. The update brings tools that change the way the iPhone interacts with competing systems and devices from other manufacturers.
Among the main changes identified in the software, three fundamental pillars that guide this compilation stand out. The system focuses on simplifying data portability between different platforms, expanding support for non-brand wearable accessories, and aesthetically refining the user interface.
Developers and enthusiasts who have already installed the package have noted that the company has prioritized functionality and integration over major visual revolutions, although there are new developments in this sector. The strategy appears to align with global demands for more interoperable technology, reducing technical barriers that traditionally made it difficult to move from the iOS environment to other market options.
The availability of the software is still restricted to the testing environment, but it signals the technology giant’s intentions for the start of the 2026 calendar. With the gradual release, user feedback is expected to help polish the new tools before the official launch to the general consumer base.
Native tool for data migration
The feature that draws the most attention in this beta version is the introduction of a simplified mechanism for transferring information from the iPhone to devices with the Android system. The functionality was designed to operate without the need for cables, using a direct connection between devices to ensure the safe passage of the user’s personal data.
To activate the process, the device owner just needs to access the general settings menu and locate the transfer option. The technology requires that the iPhone and the Android smartphone have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled, allowing mutual recognition to occur through proximity. Apple worked closely with Google engineers to ensure that the “conversation” between the two operating systems occurs smoothly, reducing common errors in manual migrations.
The list of items compatible with this transfer includes calendar contacts, message history, photo and video files, as well as basic settings. However, there are important technical limitations that users should note. Dados sensitive health, password-protected notes, and App Store-exclusive applications are not automatically migrated, requiring alternative solutions for those who decide to switch ecosystems.
Interoperability with wearables at Europa
Another relevant structural change in iOS 26.3 concerns the management of notifications for third-party wearable accessories, such as smart watches and fitness bracelets. The update introduces a protocol that allows system alerts to be forwarded directly to these devices, a function that has historically been limited or dependent on unstable intermediary applications.
This functionality, however, has a clear geographic restriction, being available exclusively to users located in União Europeia. The implementation meets strict Lei of Mercados Digitais (DMA) guidelines, which oblige large technology companies to ensure that their core services work properly with competitor hardware. The notifications menu now displays specific controls for selecting which external device will receive notifications.
Operating the feature requires a choice on the part of the consumer, as the system does not support sending notifications to multiple wearables simultaneously. When activating forwarding to a watch from another brand, the Apple Watch, if paired, will temporarily stop displaying alerts. Current tests cover not only smartwatches, but also headphones and smart televisions that support the protocol.
New visual customization options
On the aesthetic front, Apple has reorganized the wallpaper gallery to offer a more dynamic experience related to weather conditions. The section, which previously mixed astronomy and climate themes, was separated to give exclusive emphasis to meteorological information, making navigation and user choice easier.
The update includes three new pre-configured templates that use real-time location data to animate the background and lock screen. Variations allow for different font styles for the clock and the integration of widgets that complement visual information such as temperature, precipitation and air quality. Essa change aims to make the device more useful even when locked by offering immediate contextual data.
Installation procedures and schedule
Installing the beta version of iOS 26.3 requires the user to be enrolled in the company’s testing program. Access is made directly through the software update menu in the device settings, where it is possible to select the desired distribution channel. Apple recommends that this procedure only be carried out on secondary devices or after a complete data backup, as preliminary versions may contain instabilities.
In addition to iOS, the company simultaneously released test versions for its other operating systems, including iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS, maintaining feature parity across platforms. The market expectation is that the testing cycle will be brief, given the incremental nature of the update.
The release of the final and stable version for all users is expected to take place at the end of January 2026. Até there, the company should release minor fixes to adjust battery performance and the stability of the new wireless connections introduced in this build.
