Nintendo confirmed the expansion of its subscription service with the inclusion of one of the most requested titles by fans of the 128-bit era. Durante the broadcast of the Pokémon Presents event held this Thursday, the company made it official that Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will be part of the classic games library. The release is scheduled for March, offering players a new opportunity to explore the region of Orre.

To play Para, you will need to have an active subscription to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, a category that encompasses the GameCube collection – Nintendo Classics.

Although the exact date within the month of March has not yet been detailed, the announcement generated immediate repercussions in the community. The new feature meets a long-standing demand for more representation of the franchise’s table console RPGs on the digital service, eliminating the need for old hardware to access the content.

The reveal came amid other important updates for the series, but the spotlight on the 2005 title stole the show. Nintendo reinforced its commitment to maintaining a constant flow of releases for the GameCube catalog, ensuring that the digital preservation of its classics keeps pace with the platform’s technological evolution.

Exclusivity and improvements in Nintendo Switch 2

The decision to restrict the release to Nintendo Switch 2 is in line with the technical capabilities required by the high-fidelity emulation proposed by the GameCube collection – Nintendo Classics. The original hybrid console model will not be compatible with this specific version of the game, which promises to deliver a visually superior experience to the original.

Expansion pack subscribers will have immediate access to the download as soon as the file is released on the servers. Entre confirmed improvements, highlighting the improved resolution, which adapts the sixth generation graphics to current screen standards, maintaining the artistic integrity of the work developed by Genius Sonority.

This addition strengthens the added value of the subscription service, which has become a central pillar in the Nintendo ecosystem. The GameCube library on the service already houses other giants such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine and F-Zero GX, allowing users to move between different genres and iconic franchises without leaving the new console’s environment.

Return to the region of Orre

Originally released in 2005, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness works as a direct sequel to The plot takes place in the region of Orre, a distinct setting in the franchise’s universe due to its desert and arid geography, which contrasts with the traditional verdant routes of the main series.

The player takes on the role of the protagonist Michael, who is tasked with helping Professor Krane in the fight against the criminal organization Cipher. The plot revolves around the “Shadow Lugia”, known by the codename XD001, a corrupted creature that symbolizes the culmination of the antagonists’ experiments. The narrative maintains a tone of investigation and urgency, focused on dismantling the organization’s plans.

Exploring the world involves visiting locations that have been rebuilt or expanded after the five-year time jump. Cidades as Pyrite Town and the futuristic Phenac City return, along with new areas like Gateon Port and the villains’ final base in Citadark Island. The world’s design prioritizes a more linear progression, focused on coliseum battles and invasions of enemy bases.

Dynamics of capture and purification

The gameplay differs from conventional portable titles by focusing almost exclusively on double battles, requiring more complex strategies from trainers. The central mechanic involves the use of the Snag Machine, a device that allows you to capture “Pokémon Sombrios” directly from rival trainers’ teams, something impossible in traditional games.

These Pokémon Sombrios have artificially closed hearts and use exclusive moves, like the Shadow Rush, which cause high damage to both opponents and themselves in some cases. The player’s objective is not just to win, but to “steal” these creatures to rescue them from the influence of Cipher.

After capture, the purification process begins, which can be carried out at Purify Chamber or at Relic Stone, located in the peaceful Agate Village. Restaurar the heart of the Pokémon is essential for them to regain the ability to gain experience normally and learn standard attacks. Managing this process is vital to completing the list of over 80 creatures available in this condition.

Additional features and limitations

The version for Nintendo Switch Online will bring the full story mode experience and extra challenges. The game includes Mt. Battle, a structure that offers an endurance challenge with 100 floors of high-level trainers, often used to test the team’s strength and obtain legendary Pokémon at the end of the journey.

Also present is Orre Colosseum, released post-game, which allows you to face Cipher administrators and other important figures with personalized battle rules. The Poké Spots system returns, offering one of the few ways to capture wild Pokémon in the region, as random encounters in tall grass are not part of the Orre framework.

An important change in this digital version is the lack of connectivity with generation Game Boy Advance games. Originalmente, it was possible to transfer creatures from versions Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald via cable Game Link. In the Nintendo Switch Online environment, the title will function as a “standalone” experience, without the intergenerational exchange features that existed on the 2005 hardware.
