The meteorological fall of 2026 begins with typical summer conditions in parts of Brasil. A hot air mass maintains high temperatures in the Sul region and in areas of Sudeste. Instituto Nacional of Meteorologia points out that intense heat and low rainfall predominate this week in Rio Grande of Sul, No Sudeste, states such as São Paulo and Minas Gerais record highs above the historical average for the period. The transition to autumn occurs on March 20th, but thermometers remain high in several locations.

Dry and hot conditions mainly affect the central and border areas of Rio Grande of Sul. Em Santa Catarina, regions such as the northern plateau and the Itajaí valley concentrate the highest thermal elevations. No Paraná, the north and west have similar values. The relative humidity drops in the afternoons, which intensifies the feeling of stuffiness.

Intense heat in Sul this week

Maximum temperatures exceed 30°C in much of the Sul region. No Rio Grande do Sul, cities in the northwest and missions may reach values close to 35°C or more on some days. Santa Catarina records high maximums on the plateau and on the north coast.

The Paraná follows the standard with thermometers reading between 31°C and 34°C in indoor areas. The forecast indicates little precipitation, which favors the persistence of heat. Massas of dry air contribute to warm atmospheric stability.

Forecast for Sudeste in March

In Sudeste, temperatures are above average in São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Máximas can reach 33°C in parts of São Paulo and 29°C to 32°C in Minas Gerais. The Rio of Janeiro presents values close to 34°C in some areas.

Rains occur irregularly, with greater volumes in specific areas of the central north of Minas Gerais and São Paulo. No Rio of Janeiro, precipitation tends to be below average in several locations. The Espírito Santo records conditions close to normal climatology.

Trends for the entire fall at Sul

Autumn as a whole presents temperatures above the historical average in the Sul region. Irregular Chuvas predominate, with lower-than-expected totals in areas such as the central west of Santa Catarina and north of Rio Grande of Sul. The pattern of relative drought continues in several parts.

  • Central regions of RS face greater water deficits.
  • North and northwest of SC record below-average rainfall.
  • West and north of PR may have irregular rains.

These factors influence planning in sectors such as agriculture and water supply.

Conditions at Sudeste during autumn

Quarterly forecasts indicate above-average rainfall in parts of north-central São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Outras areas of Sudeste have volumes close to or below the climatology. Elevated Temperaturas persist in Minas Gerais and São Paulo, with increases of up to 1°C above average.

Rio of Janeiro and Espírito Santo tend to have temperatures close to normal. The irregularity of rainfall affects different regions differently. Continuous Monitoramento allows adjustments to forecasts.

Impacts and guidelines for the population

Prolonged heat requires care with hydration and sun protection. Atividades intense physical activities should occur at milder times. Low humidity increases the risk of respiratory discomfort in closed environments.

  • Consume fluids frequently throughout the day.
  • Choose light and light clothing for sun exposure.
  • Avoid peak temperature times for outdoor exertion.
  • Maintain adequate ventilation in homes.

These measures reduce negative effects of hot and dry weather.

Outlook for the next few days in both regions

The heat persists over the next few days in Sul and Sudeste. No Sul, the absence of intense cold fronts keeps the pattern muted. No Sudeste, isolated shocks may occur, but without significantly changing the high temperatures.

The turn to fall does not bring an immediate shift to cooler conditions. Massas of colder air should take time to establish. Atualizações of Inmet help with daily preparation.

Autumn 2026 begins with marked heat in Sul and Sudeste. Condições hot and dry conditions affect RS, SC, PR, SP and MG. The population continues to follow forecasts for climate adaptation.
