The new Renault Duster arrives on the Indian market with an updated design, premium technologies and varied engine options, including a strong hybrid, but maintains front-wheel drive only. The compact SUV was officially launched with starting prices starting at ₹10.29 lakh (with R-Pass promotional offer) and going up to ₹18.49 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a competitive option in the segment. Renault highlights local production in Chennai with a high level of nationalization, which contributes to the aggressive pricing strategy. The model returns after a hiatus of years and competes directly with rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

The vehicle adopts the CMF-B platform, which guarantees greater structural rigidity and refinement. Visual changes include a front grille with prominent “Duster” lettering, a pronounced skid plate and full LED headlights in higher versions. Inside, the highlight is the digital cockpit and better quality materials, raising the perceived standard.

Renewed exterior design

The Renault adapted the look of the Duster to Indian tastes, while maintaining the model’s robust essence. The LED headlights have a simpler signature, without the global Y motif, and the bumpers have larger side intakes for a more aggressive appearance.

On the side, the air vents with the Renault logo replace previous plastic inserts, and the D pillar receives a vertical slit. The rear features darkened triangular taillights, an LED bar connecting the lights and a redesigned bumper.

The SUV offers 212 mm of ground clearance, which favors use on uneven roads common on the Índia. The alloy wheels reach 18 inches in the top versions.

More premium and technological interior

The cabin received a complete redesign, with a focus on comfort and connectivity. Mid-range and higher Versões include a 10.25-inch digital cluster and 10.1-inch multimedia screen with integrated Google, voice controls and native navigation.

The synthetic leather finish, ambient lighting and electrically adjustable ventilated seats mark the most equipped configurations. The six-speaker Arkamys sound system appears from the Evolution variant.

The trunk has a capacity of 518 liters, expandable to around 700 liters with the rear seat folded down. Practicality includes wireless charging and dual-zone air conditioning on higher options.

  • Authentic: no multimedia screen, focus on essentials.
  • Evolution: 10.1-inch screen, 7-inch digital cluster.
  • Techno: panoramic sunroof, wireless charging.
  • Techno+: extras such as electric trunk.
  • Iconic: 10.25-inch cluster, Google suite, ventilated seats.

Engine and transmission options

The new Duster offers three mechanical packages, all with front-wheel drive. The entry uses a 1.0 three-cylinder turbo engine, delivering 99 hp and a six-speed manual transmission.

The intermediate is the 1.3 four-cylinder turbo, with 158-163 hp and six-speed manual or DCT transmission options. Esse engine stands out for its superior power in the segment.

The strong hybrid version is based on a 1.8 petrol engine with dual electric motors, generating a combined 158-160 hp. The system allows up to 80% electric driving in the city and arrives later, with high demand in pre-sales.

The absence of all-wheel drive differentiates the Indian model from the global European versions. Local production reaches 90% of components manufactured in the country.

Prices and market reception

The promotional prices with R-Pass range from ₹10.29 lakh at the base to close to ₹18.49 lakh at the top with turbo engine and DCT. Sem the offer, the range starts at ₹10.49 lakh.

The hybrid variant sold out quickly in pre-sales that began in January, leading Renault to plan an increase in production capacity. The model competes in a saturated segment, where rivals offer similar options.

Renault bets on the combination of robust design, modern equipment and affordable prices to regain space. Deliveries begin immediately at dealerships.

Featured variants and equipment

The six configurations (including Launch Edition) distribute resources progressively. The Authentic base prioritizes cost-benefit, while the Iconic Launch Edition offers a complete package.

Items such as ADAS with multiple functions, 360-degree camera and electric sunroof appear on higher levels. Connectivity via the My Renault app allows remote monitoring.

The Duster maintains practical appeal with good internal space and versatility for urban and highway use.

The new Renault Duster represents the brand’s strategic return to the Índia, with a focus on hybrid technology and nationalized production to meet growing demand for efficient and equipped SUVs.
