Sony Interactive Entertainment should soon announce the end of the strategy of taking its main single-player titles to the PC. The change represents a return to exclusivity on PlayStation consoles after six years of testing with multiplatform ports. Fontes close to the company indicate that large narrative games, such as Ghost of Yōtei and the upcoming Saros, will remain exclusive to the PS5. The decision comes after lower-than-expected performance in some recent ports and concerns about sales of PlayStation hardware.

The change in the company’s internal policy has gained momentum in recent months. Ports like Returnal and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 did not reach projected numbers on the PC platform. Além Furthermore, Sony seeks to protect its flagship games from being accessible in scenarios that may directly compete with the PlayStation ecosystem, especially with the announcement of competitor hybrid consoles.

Change in strategy announced by sources

Sources familiar with Sony’s plans have confirmed that the company no longer intends to release its big single-player titles on PC. Essa turnaround occurs after a phase in which ports such as God of War Ragnarök and The Last of Us Part I were well received, but did not compensate for investments in development for multiple platforms.

The report highlights that online and live-service games continue with multiplatform launch plans. Exemplos includes Marathon and Marvel Tokon, which are expected to arrive on PC according to the original schedule.

The exclusivity reinforces the PS5’s appeal as a primary platform for single-player storytelling. Títulos developed internally or by first-party studios prioritize the console to boost hardware sales.

Ghost of Yōtei as a concrete example

Ghost of Yōtei, released in 2025 for PS5, had initial plans for a PC port. Esses plans were recently scrapped, even with the game in an advanced stage of adaptation. The production of Sucker Punch remains exclusive to the PlayStation console.

The decision reflects an internal analysis of the impact on business results. The samurai title was successful on the PS5, but Sony chose to maintain exclusivity to preserve the brand’s value.

Upcoming releases remain exclusive

Saros, from Housemarque, arrives on PS5 on April 30, 2026. The action and shooting game will not have a PC version, according to the new strategic guidance. The Housemarque focuses on console-exclusive features, such as DualSense support and 3D audio.

Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled for September 15, 2026 exclusively on PS5. Insomniac Games has not announced plans for other platforms. The absence of mention of the PC reinforces the trend of exclusivity for single-player narratives.

Exceptions for specific titles

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, from Hideo Kojima, received a PC port with positive reception. The game reached a peak of almost 56 thousand simultaneous players on Steam. Esse case remains an exception, as it involves an external partnership.

Horizon Hunters Gathering remains confirmed for simultaneous release on PS5 and PC. Sony distinguishes multiplayer-focused or partner-developed titles from its major narrative exclusives.

The company assesses that the previous strategy did not generate sufficient returns compared to the risk of cannibalizing console sales. The return to exclusivity aims to strengthen the PlayStation ecosystem in a competitive market.

Detailed strategic motivations

Sony considers the impact of ports on Project Helix, the next console from Microsoft that integrates Xbox and PC games. Liberar single-player titles on PC could make it easier to access on competing hardware.

Sources indicate concern about the health of the PlayStation brand. Jogos narratives function as a showcase for the console, encouraging hardware purchases. The change seeks to maximize this effect rather than dilute the exclusive appeal.

The decision does not affect ports already announced or in progress for titles published by Sony, but developed externally. The focus remains on protecting large-scale in-house productions.

Official confirmation should occur soon, possibly during a call with investors or during announcements of upcoming games. Enquanto that, Sony maintains the calendar of exclusive releases for PS5.
