Presence of wild animals in Hokkaido

Hokkaido records frequent occurrences of bears near roads and inhabited areas, especially in regions like Furano. Motoristas receive instructions to reduce speed and pay extra attention during times of reduced visibility.

Environmental authorities monitor these episodes to avoid new clashes between vehicles and animals. Tuesday’s incident reinforces the need for caution on highways that cross areas with a known presence of wildlife.

Prevention measures adopted

Police advise that any new bear sightings be reported immediately via the emergency number. Motoristas must avoid stopping or approaching animals if they encounter them on the track.

Local teams continue to patrol Rodovia Nacional 38 and adjacent roads. The objective is to guarantee the safety of both those traveling through the region and the wildlife itself.

Alert for drivers in the region

The section where the collision occurred requires special attention after dark. Autoridades recommend using high beams and reducing speed in areas identified as having a higher risk of animal crossings.

Similar incidents have been recorded in other parts of Hokkaido over the past few months. Local people and visitors must follow official guidance to minimize risks when traveling at night.

Occurrence recorded with no injuries

The driver emerged from the accident unharmed and gave a statement to authorities. The police did not find the bear at the scene and are continuing to check the woods near the highway.

There is no evidence that the animal was seriously injured. The case is treated as an accidental collision typical of regions with a high presence of bears.
