Apple releases macOS 26.4 with new emojis, bug fixes and battery limit
This Tuesday, Apple released the macOS 26.4 update for all compatible Macs. The system arrives after a beta testing cycle and includes fixes for problems reported by users in addition to features requested for some time. The release focuses on refinements that improve the everyday experience without drastically changing the interface introduced in macOS Tahoe 26.
Among the most notable changes is the correction of the bug in the rounded corners of windows. The resizing cursor now correctly follows the curved shape, which eliminates the misalignment that previously occurred. Usuários who complained about inaccuracy when adjusting window sizes should notice the difference immediately after installation.
- Eight new emojis have been added to the keyboard including ballerina distorted face fighting cloud orca trombone and others.
- These characters only appear correctly on devices updated to version 26.4 otherwise they display the missing emoji symbol.
New battery and power tweaks
The update introduces the native battery charge limit option. Users can set the maximum charging between 80% and 100% directly in the system settings. Essa tool helps preserve long-term battery health and reduces dependency on third-party apps that offered similar functionality.
Many MacBook owners were already using external solutions to control charging. Agora the function is integrated, which simplifies the process and offers options in 5% increments. The setting is available in the battery section of system preferences.
Resource return on Safari
macOS 26.4 restores the compact tab bar layout in the Safari browser. Apple had removed this option in the initial release of macOS Tahoe 26 but responded to community requests by bringing back the choice between separate and compact modes. The compact layout frees up more space on the screen and allows searches directly in the active tab.
This change especially benefits those who work with multiple tabs open at the same time. Browsing becomes more efficient without losing the browser’s main features.
App and sharing improvements
In the Lembretes app, it is now possible to mark items as urgent using a keyboard shortcut. Users can also filter urgent reminders into smart lists, which better organizes daily tasks and tight deadlines.
Family sharing has received an important adjustment. Purchases made by family members no longer need to be charged exclusively to the organizer’s card. Essa flexibility makes it easier to manage expenses in larger groups.
Updates to Freeform and accessibility
Users who subscribe to the Creator Studio package gain access to premium images in the Freeform content hub. The app also allows you to enlarge low-resolution images and integrates OpenAI’s image generation model for advanced creation and editing.
Subtitles and closed captioning settings are now easier to find when playing multimedia content. A real-time preview appears directly on the subtitles icon, which speeds up activation as needed.
Notice about end of support for Rosetta 2
Starting with this version, the system starts displaying notifications when users open applications that depend on Rosetta 2. Apple had already informed that macOS 27 will be the last version with support for the translation layer for Intel apps. The alert helps prepare for migration to native versions of Apple Silicon.
Improved subtitle options
When playing videos or audio, subtitle settings now offer immediate viewing. Users adjust preferences more accurately without having to repeatedly pause content.
The update also includes general stability fixes and recommended security patches for all supported Macs. Installation can be done directly through the system settings in Atualização of Software.
