Geely launches i-HEV hybrid system with consumption of 45 km/l
Geely Auto launched the i-HEV hybrid powertrain system this Monday. The objective is to increase energy efficiency and compete in the conventional hybrid vehicle segment. A model Emgrand equipped with the technology recorded a consumption of 2.22 liters per 100 kilometers in a road test, which is equivalent to 45 km/l and set a new record according to the company.
The system integrates an energy management platform based on artificial intelligence. Essa platform analyzes environmental conditions in real time, such as temperature, humidity and altitude. Geely claims the feature helps optimize fuel and electricity usage.
i-HEV technical details
The i-HEV has a thermal efficiency of 48.41%. The electrical package delivers power of 230 kW, or 313 horsepower. Essa configuration allows acceleration from 0 to 30 km/h in 1.84 seconds. The system is designed to improve low-speed drivability and energy recovery.
The architecture enables functions such as intelligent driving. Geely highlights that the level of onboard computing offers features not yet matched by traditional Japanese hybrids. The launch took place at an event on China.
Application plans in templates
The technology will be introduced later this year in several vehicles in the range. Models include Preface, Monjaro, Starray and Emgrand. The expansion aims to expand Geely’s presence in the hybrid segment.
- Preface i-HEV records WLTC consumption of 3.98 liters per 100 km
- Monjaro i-HEV records WLTC consumption of 4.75 liters per 100 km
- Emgrand served as the basis for the test that reached a record of 45 km/l
- Starray also joins the list of releases scheduled for 2026
Geely operates at Brasil in partnership with Renault. The brand already offers the EX2 model Pro, which is 100% electric, with a range of up to 289 km and a price starting at R$123,800.
Hybrid market context
Japanese automakers have dominated the hybrid segment since Prius launched Toyota in 1997. Esse control is stronger in regions with limited charging infrastructure. China has encouraged the development of plug-in hybrids, where the electric motor acts as the main source of propulsion.
The Geely seeks to offer more powerful engines, improved electric drive, lower consumption and greater intelligence. The strategy targets both the domestic and international markets. In the 2025 global sales ranking, Geely Group occupied ninth position, with 4.11 million units sold.
Repercussion among analysts
Experts see the movement as a turning point in the sector. The system combines efficiency with artificial intelligence capabilities. The company plans to apply the technology in high volume to gain scale.
i-HEV differentiates itself by integrating real-time environmental data. Isso allows dynamic adjustments in the operation of the engine and electrical system. Testes indicate consistent gains across different usage conditions.
Presence of Geely on Brasil
In the Brazilian market, Geely shares operations with Renault. The initial focus has been on electric models, such as the EX2 Pro. The arrival of hybrids with new technology could expand the options available in the country in the coming years.
The company did not detail specific dates for i-HEV launch in Brasil. Observadores in the industry expect the technology to arrive gradually as the line expands.
Comparison with competitors
Geely highlights that i-HEV offers advanced computing and efficiency that defy the established norm. The record consumption in the test with Emgrand serves as a practical demonstration. The company claims that the system represents an advance in scale for the segment.
The rollout across multiple models should occur progressively throughout 2026. The strategy includes both sedans and SUVs in the current lineup.
The i-HEV system integrates an energy management platform with artificial intelligence. Essa solution analyzes environmental variables to adjust performance. The result appears in lower fuel consumption and greater combined autonomy.
Industry analysts see potential for impact in markets where electrical infrastructure is still under development. Geely plans to combine power, efficiency and smart features into affordable vehicles.
