Destinos traditionalists on the European continent are preparing a significant overhaul of immigration policies. The new guidelines directly affect Brasil travelers. The package of measures changes financial requirements, insurance and consular processes in six nations in the bloc. The changes come into operation in a staggered manner throughout 2026.

Portugal, Espanha, França, Alemanha, Itália and Holanda lead the border control movement. The authorities’ focus is on prolonged stays and residence applications. The traditional exemption for short tours remains intact. Especialistas recommend paying extra attention when planning trips to avoid surprises at international airports.

Exigências financial and screening affect long trips

The Portuguese government has established a strict financial floor for stays longer than three months. Interested parties must prove a minimum monthly income of €1,500. The amount is equivalent to the minimum wage in the European country. The rule comes into effect in July. Requests for family reunification also require the presentation of bank statements for the last semester. Proof of employment is also part of the mandatory dossier.

The significant volume of arrivals led to tighter inspections. The Portuguese territory received more than 680 thousand Brazilian visitors last year alone. Consular offices already operate with extended deadlines. Waiting lists vary between 45 and 60 days for long-term permits to be issued.

Espanha opted for a technological path to monitor migratory flows. The Iberian country launches a digital pre-screening system for those planning to stay more than 21 days. The electronic form costs €15. The system processes the data and issues an opinion within 72 hours. The tool adds a security step before boarding transatlantic flights.

Documentary preparation requires prior organization of passengers. The main requirements for safe transit in these two nations include:

  • Comprovação of financial capacity compatible with the length of stay.
  • Aprovação in the Spanish digital system for intermediate itineraries.
  • Apresentação of employment contracts for residence purposes.
  • Garantia accommodation covering the entire period of the trip.

The absence of any certificate may result in airlines being denied boarding. Border agents have the autonomy to block entry if they identify inconsistencies in the declared purposes. The rigor in checking papers reflects the bloc’s new stance.

Mandatory Seguro and face-to-face interviews change routine

French diplomacy has raised the bar for the protection of public health. From August, the territory will require a travel insurance policy with a minimum coverage of €50,000. The obligation affects all citizens outside União Europeia. The contract must guarantee the cost of medical expenses, hospital admissions and possible health repatriation. Inspectors will collect the document upon arrival.

German rigor focuses on in-person checking of applicants’ profiles. Interviews at consulates become mandatory for all long-term authorizations. The measure covers students, workers and family members in the process of reunification. The new routine directly affects bureaucratic processing time.

The representative offices in São Paulo and Rio of Janeiro project a significant increase in demand. The waiting time for an appointment can reach two months from September onwards. Travelers need to collect certificates and sworn translations in advance. Long-term planning becomes an absolute necessity for anyone looking for opportunities in the Europa economic engine.

Annual Cotas and anticipated biometrics at airports

The Italian peninsula adopted a strategy based on quantitative limits. The government has applied an annual quota of 45,000 renewable tourist visas to the Brazilian public since January. The operational ceiling reflects the maximum analysis capacity of consular officials. Available places can fill up quickly during the European high season months.

Holanda decided to accelerate the implementation of new border control technologies. The country integrates the EES system in advance from June. The collection of biometric data becomes compulsory at all immigration posts. The procedure includes recording fingerprints and facial mapping of passengers.

The verification step lasts about two minutes per person. The process does not generate additional costs for the tourist. The immediate impact must be felt on travel time within the terminals. Amsterdã airport, one of the largest connecting hubs on the continent, is preparing special arrangements to avoid the formation of long queues at control cabins.

Isenção for fast tourism remains in force

The scenario remains favorable for those just looking for leisure in short periods. Brasil citizens retain the right to travel through Espaço Schengen without a prior visa for up to 90 days. The benefit is valid for each 180-day window. The traditional two or three week vacation undergoes very few practical changes.

The end of physical stamps in the passport represents the most visible change for the common tourist. The electronic entry and exit system reaches full functionality in April in most of the block. The digital platform records movement history with mathematical precision. The technology aims to prevent the illegal stay of foreigners after the expiration of the regulatory period.

The organization of the document folder takes on unprecedented importance. The passport must be valid for at least six months after the expected date of return to Brasil. The statement of financial resources is around €100 per day to cover basic expenses. Hotel reservations must coincide exactly with round-trip air tickets.

Diplomatic representations advise frequent consultation of official communication channels. Specific rules may undergo refinements throughout the year. The purchase of airline tickets and the signing of rental contracts should only occur after confirming the updated requirements. Caution avoids financial losses and frustration at the time of boarding.
