Anthropic’s Claude artificial intelligence platform experienced a significant outage on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. The outage affected thousands of users around the world and took down both the chat service and developer tools.

The Downdetector monitoring site detected more than 2,500 problem reports as of 10:59 am (Pacífico time). The number jumped to above 5,000 users as the failure worsened. The complaints pointed to the impossibility of accessing the platform during the critical period of the incident.

Quais services became unavailable

Usuários had difficulties accessing at least two main components of the platform. Claude Chat, the default chat interface, had repeated errors. Claude Code, a tool aimed at programmers, also went offline.

The flaw also affected the service’s login paths. Quem tried to access the platform and faced authentication barriers. Connectivity issues persisted throughout the peak of the incident according to data collected from status reports.

Anthropic confirmed the issues through its internal monitoring systems. A company spokesperson acknowledged the public failure via the platform’s status checker.

“We have identified an issue resulting in a high number of errors in the Anthropic API, as well as issues accessing Claude.ai, including the login paths for Claude Code. Estamos is working to resolve these issues and will provide an update as soon as possible,” the Claude status checker said in an official statement.

Impacto in users and companies

The interruption affected everyone from casual users to corporate customers who depend on the platform. Desenvolvedores that integrate the Claude API into their applications also faced limitations. The failure highlighted the importance of redundant systems in rapidly growing AI services.

Empresas that use Claude for data analysis, automated writing and coding have seen their operations interrupted during the downtime. The magnitude of the incident — with thousands of simultaneous reports — indicated a systemic problem rather than isolated failures.

Anthropic did not release detailed information about the exact cause of the failure or an estimate of when service would be fully restored. Continuous monitoring of Downdetector allowed users to follow the incident’s evolution in real time.

Contexto from Anthropic on the market

Anthropic competes directly with OpenAI in the AI assistant segment. The company received strategic investment from large technology corporations, strengthening its position in the market. Claude has become a popular alternative for users seeking advanced artificial intelligence services.

Incidentes of unavailability on AI platforms is highlighted given the growth of business dependence on these services. Mesmo temporary failures cause significant economic impact on development and operations teams.
