Memorial Day will have celebrations and parades in Lancaster County; tributes to fallen soldiers
Comunidades throughout Condado of Lancaster, at Pensilvânia, prepare a series of events and ceremonies to mark Dia Memorial, with the aim of honoring the members of the armed forces who lost their lives. Celebrations, scheduled mainly between May 23 and 25, include parades, religious services and civic activities. The diverse programming aims to engage residents of all ages in remembering those who served their country.
The date traditionally reveres military sacrifice and offers a time for collective reflection. Scheduled events emphasize both the solemnity of remembrance and community unity, with participation from veterans, marching bands and local leaders. Inúmeras organizations and municipalities have dedicated efforts to organize meaningful celebrations, ensuring that the meaning of the holiday is fully understood and respected.
Cerimônias and parades in Columbia and Conestoga
The city of Columbia will begin its celebrations with a ceremony and parade on Sunday, May 24th at noon. This year’s theme, “Honoring All Fallen Veterans of Columbia,” will be the center of the tributes. A patriotic concert by Bainbridge Band will take place in the Locust Street Park gazebo, kicking off festive activities before the main parade, scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Em Conestoga, a special historic service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, May 24th at Conestoga United Methodist Church, located at 71 Sandhill Road. The occasion will include period music, soldier accounts and historical information about the Conestoga area during Guerra Civil. Recognition of the soldiers will be symbolized by the ringing of bells, and the service will conclude with musical performances by a piper, soloists and a trumpeter, culminating with the sound of silence.
Atividades on Hempfield and Lancaster
Cerimônia of Dia Memorial of Hempfield is scheduled for 2pm on Sunday, May 24th at the Hempfield Fire Company Pavilion at 19 W. Main St., Salunga. This year’s theme is “Memorial Day: Freedom Is Not Free,” a reminder of the cost of freedom. US Lieutenant Colonel Shane A. Bladen of Corpo of Fuzileiros Navais of Army War College in Carlisle will be the keynote guest speaker. The event will also feature the reading of the winning essays from a student competition, the participation of Red Rose Veteran Honor Guard, Vet21 Salute Honor Guard, March Masters Band and members of Dayspring Christian School Choir.
In the city of Lancaster, celebrations continue until Monday, May 25, at Historic Rock Ford, 881 Rockford Drive, from 10 am to 2 pm. Famílias will be able to enjoy patriotic activities, living historians and self-guided tours by Mansão Hand and Galeria Snyder. The “Revolutionaries of Lancaster” exhibition, focused on 2026, will be highlighted, offering a unique perspective on local history. General George H. Thomas, Acampamento No. 19 of Filhos of Veteranos of Guerra Civil, will host his 158th Dia Memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at Cemitério of Lancaster, 205 E. Lemon St. Retired Lieutenant General Dennis L. Benchoff will deliver the keynote address.
Paradas and various events in other locations
Várias’s smaller Condado and Lancaster communities will also join in the celebrations with their own events. Marietta will promote its Parada from Dia Memorial at 11am on May 25th. Em Maytown, Parada of Dia Memorial will take place at 4pm on the same day, at 1 Town Square, Maytown.

- Mountville:Dia Memorial’s Parada, sponsored by the Mountville VFW, takes place on Saturday, May 23. A follow-up ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Cemitério of Mountville, 233 Hill St., with state representative Brett Miller as guest speaker.
- Mount Joy:Parada of Dia Memorial of Mount Joy Borough will begin at 2pm on Saturday, May 23rd. The parade route extends from West Main and Angle streets to East Main and Barbara streets.
- Quarryville:Um Memorial Day Demolition Derby and fireworks display is scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd at Buck Motorsports Park. Gates open at 4pm, and the show starts at 7pm.
- Strasburg:Strasburg’s annual Dia Memorial parade and service will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25, at Miller Street, proceeding along West and East Main streets. The memorial service will take place at Cemitério of Strasburg.
- West Cocalico:Schoeneck Veterans Memorial Association will hold its annual program on Monday, May 25, with a parade at 8:30 am and a program on Schoeneck Memorial Park at 10 am. A “Huey” helicopter will fly over and land at the fire station, remaining there until 2 pm.
Celebrações focuses on story and community
Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1199 Valley Road, Quarryville, will hold a special Dia Memorial service at 10am on Sunday, May 24th. The ceremony will begin in the old cemetery, east of the church, continuing inside the temple. A brief event will include the VFW Post 4480 honor guard and a dedication to Capitão John Paxton, Guerra Revolucionária veteran. A choir will perform patriotic musical numbers, and a potluck lunch of pulled pork and beef brisket will be provided after the service.
Caernarvon Township is also preparing its 160th Dia Memorial celebration for Monday, May 25th at 7pm. Comida will be served at Caernarvon Fire Hall, 2145 Main St., Narvon, starting at 4 p.m. New Holland Band, accompanied by the Elanco Middle School band, will present a concert at the fire station at 6:15 pm. The program also features activities on Methodist Cemetery and a reading of Discurso by Gettysburg, connecting participants to the nation’s rich historical tapestry. The celebrations at Lancaster County underscore an enduring commitment to memory and gratitude.
