Volkswagen has announced the return of the ID electric minivan. Buzz for the 2027 model line in the USA with new features and two new finishes. The vehicle had been discontinued for 2026 in the American market after lower-than-expected demand the previous year. The company confirmed the return of the version with software updates, a revised color palette and new wheel options.

The absence of the minivan in the 2026 model year occurred because the launch of the 2025 version was delayed, making it economically unfeasible to maintain production for a short cycle. Kjell Gruner, president of Volkswagen Group of America, clarified the strategy during Salão of Automóvel of Nova York.

Modo camping and resources for travelers

The highlight of the revival is the new Tourer 4Motion edition, developed specifically for owners who use the vehicle for camping and traveling. The model will arrive with equipment installed directly at the factory, eliminating the need for subsequent modifications.

Entre The items included are a folding mattress integrated into the resting platform, as well as curtains for the windows and ventilation panels. The “Overnight” mode represents an innovation: it uses the high voltage battery to maintain functions such as climate control active even when the vehicle is turned off, allowing prolonged use without consuming fuel or draining the main battery.

Volkswagen also included a folding table and chair set in the factory configuration, transforming the interior into a versatile space for outdoor activities. Essas additions respond to requests from electric minivan owners looking for a camping-ready vehicle without external customizations.

Single pedal regenerative Frenagem

One of the biggest points of criticism from owners of the 2025 model was the lack of true single-pedal driving. The 2027 version corrects this limitation by implementing a system that allows the driver to bring the vehicle to a complete stop using only regenerative braking, eliminating the need for the traditional brake pedal.

Essa technology takes advantage of the electric motor to slow the vehicle and recover kinetic energy, converting it into charge for the battery. Proprietários who have been waiting for this functionality since the initial release will now have access to the feature in the next generation.

Software ID.S 6 with interface improvements

The infotainment system received a significant update with the implementation of ID.S 6 software, which brings a complete visual overhaul of the user experience. The navigation has been reorganized with a modified screen layout, making it easier to access features.

A page dedicated to vehicle settings centralizes functions previously scattered across the menu, reducing the time needed to adjust comfort and performance preferences. The GPS navigator also received improvements in accuracy and processing speed.

The most significant new feature is the updated integrated App Store, which allows third-party applications to be downloaded directly to the on-board system. Proprietários will be able to install platforms such as YouTube and Spotify without needing to connect via smartphone.

Alterações visuals and customization options

The color palette has been revised with new shades available for the minivan’s exterior finishes. Simultaneamente, the Volkswagen has expanded wheel options, offering more possibilities for visual customization according to aesthetic preferences and performance needs.

Essas changes reflect feedback collected among previous generation owners, who demanded greater flexibility in choosing visual components. The new color and wheel combinations will be available on both new trims.

Configurações and market strategy

The minivan offering structure for 2027 includes:

  • Trim Tourer 4Motion with camping equipment as standard
  • Trim default with traditional settings
  • Sistema single pedal regenerative braking on all versions
  • Software ID.S 6 as standard across the range
  • Novas exclusive color palettes and wheel options for 2027
  • Modo Overnight for use with battery disconnected

The decision to reintroduce the model represents Volkswagen’s renewed commitment to the electric minivan segment, which remains nascent in the American market. The company believes that the new features, particularly camping mode and single-pedal braking, address specific demands from owners looking for versatility in a mid-sized electric vehicle.
