Travis Knight confirmed that She-Ra will be of central importance if the new He-Man live-action film is continued. In an interview with SFX magazine, the director stated that the character “will have a huge role” in the franchise’s next productions. Knight avoided revealing whether the heroine will appear in the first film, but admitted that there were extensive internal conversations about her participation.

“For me, She-Ra has always been a big part of the Masters universe and a big part of the Adam story,” stated Knight. The filmmaker explained that there are scenes involving the character that were discussed for the current production, but he did not confirm whether they will be part of the feature film that will hit theaters soon.

She-Ra’s trajectory in the He-Man universe

Criada in 1985 as the twin sister of He-Man, She-Ra gained her own prominence with the animated series “She-Ra: Princess of Power”, a direct derivative of the original franchise. The character has had a strong resurgence in recent years thanks to Netflix’s animated series “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power,” which aired from 2018 to 2020 and won over a new generation of fans with its innovative storytelling and diverse representation.

The heroine’s return to Universo’s Mestres cinematic universe represents an opportunity to expand the mythology established in the new film. Knight highlighted that creative decisions have already been made about how to integrate She-Ra throughout the project’s development, but the definitive strategy remains secret.

Elenco confirmed and production of new film

The film’s all-star cast includes:

  • Nicholas Galitzine as Príncipe Adam/He-Man
  • Camila Mendes as Teela
  • Idris Elba as Mentor
  • Allison Brie as Maligna
  • Morena Baccarin as Feiticeira
  • Jared Leto as Esqueleto
  • Hafthor Bjornsson as Homem-Goat
  • Sam C. Wilson as Mandíbula
  • Kristen Wiig as Roboto
  • Jon Xue Zhang as Aríete
  • James Purefoy as Rei Randor
  • Charlotte Riley as Rainha Marlena

Knight directs the production in partnership with Chris Butler, the director’s frequent screenwriter, who rewrote the screenplay originally written by David Callaham. The director of “Kubo and the Cordas Mágicas” and “Bumblebee” brings his expertise in sophisticated visual storytelling to revitalize Mattel’s classic franchise.

Cenas cut and director’s creative vision

Knight acknowledged that the editing process resulted in the deletion of sequences he considers significant. “I’m very proud of the film, but there are definitely things I love that we had to cut,” the filmmaker confessed. Essa’s approach suggests that content involving She-Ra may be among the scenes not included in the final version, leaving room for its development in future sequels.

The director remained confidential about specific details, but his speech indicates that the franchise was planned with possibilities for expansion. She-Ra’s participation in sequences, therefore, is part of a larger strategy for building the He-Man cinematic universe, with the potential to explore both the relationship between the brothers and the character’s own heroic journey.

Legado cinematic franchise

The 1987 film with Dolph Lundgren as Príncipe Adam and Frank Langella as Esqueleto represents the franchise’s only feature-length cinematic precedent. The new project seeks to reinvent the story for contemporary audiences, and Lundgren returns in a surprise role that connects the two interpretations of the universe.

Mattel’s original toy line, which spawned the classic 1980s animated series, laid the foundation for the entire mythology that now finds new life in film. Knight and his team work to honor this legacy while introducing new and relevant elements for today’s viewers, considering the inclusion of iconic characters like She-Ra an essential part of this creative renewal.
