Chinese manufacturer BYD announced mechanical and technological updates for the Song Plus sports utility vehicle in the Brazilian market. The plug-in hybrid model in the 2027 line receives a new turbo combustion engine and a larger capacity battery. The automaker stipulates a suggested price of R$249,990 for the vehicle in the country.

The changes aim to adapt the car to the demands of daily use and long journeys of local consumers. National production of the utility is confirmed to take place at the Camaçari factory, in the state of Bahia. Local assembly should begin in the coming months, consolidating the brand’s expansion strategy across the country.

Desempenho mechanic and new turbo engine

The DM-i hybrid system has undergone a complete redesign to deliver more agile responses to the driver. The main mechanical change involves replacing the old aspirated block with a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine. Este combustion engine generates, in isolation, 130 horsepower. Integration with the electric motor increases the vehicle’s combined capacity to 239 horsepower.

The car’s traction acts directly on the front wheels. The mechanical package allows the sports utility vehicle to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds. The vehicle’s maximum speed is electronically limited to preserve component integrity and energy efficiency. The instantaneous torque of the electric motor guarantees quick exits from traffic lights and urban intersections.

The brand’s engineers also made adjustments to the vehicle’s suspension. The objective of calibration is to absorb the impacts of irregular roads more efficiently, without compromising stability on highways. The electrically assisted steering received new programming to offer more precise responses at high speeds and lightness during parking maneuvers in confined spaces.

Battery Capacidade and extended electric range

The Blade battery pack, developed by the automaker itself, presents a significant increase in its energy storage capacity. The new generation of the component went from 18.3 kWh to 26.6 kWh. Este increase allows the vehicle to travel up to 99 kilometers using exclusively electrical energy, without activating the combustion engine at any time.

The combination of a full fuel tank and a fully charged battery provides a combined range of over 1,150 kilometers according to the NEDC test cycle. The driver can select different driving modes on the central screen. The system automatically manages the energy flow to optimize consumption on urban and highway journeys, switching between engines according to the need for power.

One of the main new features of the 2027 line is compatibility with fast direct current charging. The system supports a maximum power of 18 kW at fast charging stations. Esta technology allows the battery to recover its full charge in approximately 55 minutes.

  • Slow charging can be carried out using grounded residential sockets during the night.
  • Installing wallbox-type chargers in garages reduces waiting time for a full recharge.
  • The use of public direct current stations on highways facilitates long-distance travel.

The transition to fast charging eliminates sole reliance on AC slow chargers. Owners can use the charging infrastructure available in shopping malls, supermarkets and gas stations more efficiently. The vehicle comes with adapter cables for different socket standards found in the country, facilitating the electrical supply routine.

Tecnologia internal and driver assistance systems

The interior of the sports utility vehicle maintains the dimensions of the previous generation, measuring 4.77 meters long and 1.89 meters wide. The wheelbase measures 2.76 meters, accommodating five adult passengers in comfort. The trunk offers capacity for 552 liters of luggage. The cabin features new upholstery materials and dark color options for the seats and door panels.

The digital instrument cluster features a 12.3-inch screen with new display graphics. The center of the panel houses the traditional 15.6-inch rotating multimedia screen. The operating system integrates Google services natively, allowing the use of navigation and music applications without the need for mirroring via smartphone. Voice control recognizes instructions in Portuguese to control vehicle functions, such as air conditioning and opening the windows.

The active safety package includes advanced driver assistance features. Adaptive cruise control adjusts the car’s speed based on traffic ahead. The autonomous emergency braking system detects pedestrians and vehicles, automatically applying the brakes in the event of a risk of a frontal collision. Blind spot monitoring and lane keeping assist complement the protection items. The cabin has six airbags distributed across the front, side and curtain areas.

National Produção and impact on the automotive market

The decision to nationalize production of the model comes at a time of transition for the Brazilian automotive industry. The BYD factory in Camaçari is undergoing structural adaptations to begin assembling electrified vehicles. Local production reduces dependence on logistical imports and protects prices against currency fluctuations and the progressive increase in import tax for hybrid and electric cars in the Brasil.

The industrial complex in Bahia should generate direct and indirect jobs in the Nordeste region. The automaker plans to establish a network of local suppliers to increase the rate of nationalization of parts over the next few years. The corporate strategy aims to consolidate the brand among the sales leaders in the medium sports utility vehicle segment, competing directly with traditional combustion-powered models and other electrified options available at dealerships.

The acceptance of plug-in hybrid vehicles is growing steadily among Brazilian consumers. The format acts as a technological bridge to full electrification, eliminating range anxiety in regions with a lower density of public chargers. The brand’s dealership network continues to expand throughout all regions of the country, offering specialized technical support and preventive maintenance services to serve the new fleet.
