Samsung Electronics Japan has started distributing One UI 8.5, its latest interface, for Galaxy smartphones and tablets released since 2023. The update highlights compatibility with Apple’s AirDrop, allowing direct sharing between Galaxy devices and iPhones via Bluetooth, in addition to editing features with artificial intelligence and expanded compatibility with satellites.

Compatibilidade extended and rollout schedule

The Galaxy S24, S24 Ultra, S25 and S25 Ultra receive the update immediately, as do the Z Fold7, Z Fold6, Z Flip7 and Z Flip6 foldable models. The distribution also reaches previous models such as Galaxy S23 Ultra and older versions, with gradual implementation depending on the region. Samsung has already released One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S26 series, launched in March, and the Galaxy A57 5G, which hit the market in April. The official schedule indicates that updates will begin on May 26th for other compatible models.

Toda and Galaxy line are supported, but access to specific features such as Galaxy AI varies depending on the device generation. Newer Dispositivos gain full functionality, while older models gain partial features or those limited by hardware capacity.

Built-in AirDrop and unlimited sharing

Support for AirDrop represents a significant advance in interoperability between ecosystems. Galaxy S24, S24 Ultra, S25, S25 Ultra and the foldable models Z Fold6, Z Fold7, Z Flip6 and Z Flip7 now share files with iPhones using Bluetooth, eliminating the need for third-party apps or additional Wi-Fi connections. The process is as straightforward as native iOS, offering a uniform experience for users with multiple devices.

The update also removes previous sharing restrictions. Antes, transfers via QR codes and links allowed sending up to 1,000 files at a time. Agora, users can stream unlimited amount of files without total size restrictions. Essa change eliminates fragmentation of large shares and simplifies the workflow for professionals and casual users.

Edição of photos with artificial intelligence

The Photo Assist app integrates AI for advanced transformations. Usuários provide natural language instructions for editing images. Exemplos include converting day scene to night scene, adding visual elements to a photo, or restoring missing parts of objects such as an incomplete cake in an image.

A new feature in Galaxy AI allows you to change clothes in photos to correct imperfections such as stains on a garment. The editing interface now displays results in a list, allowing seamless navigation between variations. Usuários can correct or undo changes during the process, offering complete flexibility before saving the final image.

  • Scenarios Transformação (Day to Night)
  • Adição of elements in images
  • Restauração of missing parts
  • Troca of clothing to correct imperfections
  • Visualização in multiple variation list
  • Desfecho and correction during editing

Estúdio Criativo for custom content

Creative Studio (Estúdio Criativo) allows you to generate and save sticker sets for use in messaging and photo editing. Funcionalidade extends to creating invitations, profile cards, wallpapers and additional visual items. Usuários leverage pre-designed templates or generate from scratch using textual prompts.

Expansão from Starlink Direct to Galaxy

Samsung has expanded compatibility with au Starlink Direct, a service that connects smartphones directly to communication satellites without dependence on a traditional mobile network. Seis new Galaxy models will be supported: Z Fold5, Z Fold6, S24 FE, S23 Ultra, A36 5G and A25 5G. Total of compatible unlocked Galaxy smartphones increases to 18 devices.

The new compatible SIM-free devices are expected to be available from mid-June, with sequential activation on the Starlink Direct connectivity check page. Essa expansion benefits users in remote regions or during emergency situations where cellular networks may be unavailable.

Generational Coverage Estratégia

One UI 8.5 represents Samsung’s commitment to extended support for older devices. Série Galaxy S23 and later receive full access to the update, ensuring that users with 2 years of use continue to receive new functionality. Essa’s approach contrasts with the practice of competing manufacturers, who often limit updates to 2 or 3 recent generations.

Gradual rollout avoids overload on Samsung servers and allows for problem monitoring first. Regiões receive updates in waves, with priority given to newer and more popular models. Usuários can check availability in device settings or wait for automatic notification.
