Osaka Toru Hashimoto’s lawyer and former governor criticized Shinnosuke Abe’s decision to resign as Yomiuri Giants’s coach following his arrest for domestic assault. Hashimoto participated in ABC TV’s Okaeri program on May 27 and argued that the coach’s removal hurts his children, even if the situation could be resolved within the family.

Shinnosuke Abe, 47, was arrested on May 25 by Tóquio Metropolitan Police on suspicion of assault against his 18-year-old daughter. Ele was released in the early hours of the 26th and resigned from his position as coach on the same day. The arrest occurred after the daughter contacted child protective services to report the incident.

Crítica from Hashimoto to technician’s removal

Hashimoto questioned the social climate that forced Abe to resign. “If you ask what the biggest problem with the intervention is, at the end of the day, it’s the climate in society that forces Sr. Abe to resign, even though it seems like the problem could be resolved within the family,” he declared during his appearance on the TV show. Ele emphasized that the situation makes everyone unhappy, especially the coach’s children.

The former governor argued that child protective services and police acted correctly. Ele praised the authorities’ response, highlighting that intervening in families is a valid government policy to protect children. Hashimoto stated that this leaves no one in a disadvantageous position when executed properly.

Detalhes of the incident and family context

The arrest occurred when Shinnosuke Abe was trying to break up a fight between his two daughters. The eldest daughter, aged 18, was attacked while trying to mediate the conflict between her and her 15-year-old sister. Segundo reports, Abe “lost his temper” when his eldest daughter talked back to him during their disagreement.

The daughter did not suffer physical injuries and, according to later information, regretted having denounced her father. Ela consulted ChatGPT before contacting child protective services. The complaint was made by the child after calling 110, the Japanese police emergency number.

Apelo from Hashimoto to Yomiuri Giants

Hashimoto made a direct appeal to Yomiuri Giants to reinstate Shinnosuke Abe. “I understand that Giants is concerned about his public image, as his business is to sell to fans, but if you think about his children, please bring Sr. Abe back,” declared the former governor. Ele argued that the coach’s return would be the best possible outcome for the child, as long as the family was able to properly handle the situation.

Hashimoto supported his position by defending his eldest daughter’s use of artificial intelligence:

  • The child acted normally when using ChatGPT
  • It is appropriate for an AI generation to seek help from others
  • Contatar protective services is not wrong when a child is suffering
  • The current generation will need to live with AI technology from now on

Posicionamento on protecting minors

Osaka’s former governor praised the functioning of the Japanese child protection system. Quando was governor and mayor, Hashimoto instructed child protective services to intervene first and face the consequences if they made mistakes, rather than leaving a child at risk. “It’s okay if you’re wrong, just intervene with the family. If we’re wrong, the governor and the mayor will apologize,” he said in describing his previous approach.

Ele warned that penalties that are too harsh could make child protective services and police hesitant to act. Hashimoto maintained that the authorities’ response in this case was adequate and that the real problem lies in the social pressure that led to Abe’s resignation.
