Asian automaker Geely has officially launched a deep update for the Xingyuan model, also known as EX2, which holds the title of best-selling car in the Chinese market during the year 2025. The manufacturer has implemented a package of improvements focused on driving assistance technology, expansion of energy capacity and an aggressive readjustment of the value table. The strategic move occurs at a time of saturation and high competitiveness in the compact electric vehicle segment, where dozens of brands compete for urban consumer preference.

The decision to renew the best-selling product reflects the speed of transformation in China’s automotive sector, characterized by increasingly shorter product life cycles. The model recorded a decline of approximately 3% in registrations compared to the previous year, a warning sign that motivated the anticipation of technological updates. The company seeks to shield the EX2 against the arrival of recently launched competitors, delivering superior category specifications in an entry-level vehicle, without changing the structural platform that already dominates the country’s streets.

Artificial Inteligência and autonomous driving in urban traffic

The main technological leap of the updated Geely Xingyuan lies in the adoption of the Geely Afari Smart Driving system, identified by the acronym G-ASD. The driving assistance platform uses artificial intelligence to process data in real time, a feature that had been presented by the automaker at the beginning of the year during the CES technology fair. The integration of this software into the compact EX2 democratizes access to advanced tools, including automated navigation on autopilot, capable of managing lane changes and speed adjustments on expressways.

The vehicle’s electronic architecture also now supports fully autonomous parking maneuvers, reducing driver intervention in tight spaces. Processing data from cameras and sensors around the car allows the system to map the environment with millimeter precision. The introduction of G-ASD highlights Geely’s strategy of making autonomous driving a factory standard for high-volume models, rather than restricting the technology to just the brand’s luxury sedans and SUVs.

Outro A relevant addition to the security package is sentry mode, a new feature in previous versions of EX2. The system keeps the perimeter cameras active while the vehicle is parked, recording any suspicious movement or impact around the body. The offer of this standard equipment puts the model at a direct competitive advantage against the BYD Seagull, its main rival, which makes the God’s Eye monitoring system available only as an optional package paid separately at dealerships.

47 kWh Bateria increases range to 480 kilometers

Geely engineering restructured the Xingyuan’s energy storage options to suit drivers who need greater range between charges. The big news is the introduction of a battery pack with 47 kWh capacity, which now occupies the top of the model range. The high-density chemical component allows the electric compact to reach 480 kilometers of autonomy, the equivalent of 298 miles, eliminating range anxiety common in intercity travel.

The range data released by the manufacturer follows the CLTC standard, Ciclo of Teste of Veículos Leves of China. The Asian protocol is known in the automotive industry for presenting more optimistic results when compared to the rigorous European WLTP or EPA tests on the Estados Unidos. The EX2’s electrical architecture has also received improvements in thermal management, resulting in significantly shorter fast recharge times. The vehicle now recovers 30% to 80% of the battery charge in exactly 19 minutes, a significant improvement compared to the 30 minutes required by the previous generation.

The electric compact powertrain catalog has been organized to cover different price ranges and daily use needs:

  • Bateria of 30.12 kWh coupled to the 80 horsepower electric motor for the entry-level version.
  • Bateria of 40.16 kWh combined with the 114 horsepower propellant in the intermediate configuration.
  • 47 kWh Bateria capable of delivering up to 480 kilometers of range in the CLTC cycle in the top-of-the-line version.

The diversification of mechanical sets allows the Geely to serve everything from the fleet owner who seeks the lowest cost per kilometer driven to the private consumer who demands superior performance on highways. The calibration of the electric motors was maintained, prioritizing energy efficiency and the delivery of instant torque in urban traffic.

Price Guerra reduces initial value of electric compact

The commercial dynamics of the Chinese market forced Geely to adopt an extremely aggressive pricing policy for the launch of the updated line. The automaker applied a temporary cut to the table, positioning the entry-level version of the Xingyuan at US$9,133. The value represents a direct reduction compared to the US$9,700 charged for the previous year’s model. The strategy aims to stifle the growth of local startups and keep production volume in factories operating at maximum capacity.

The most expensive configuration of the EX2, equipped with the new 47 kWh battery and all autonomous driving assistants, hits stores with a price set at around US$14,000. The Chinese industry’s ability to deliver an electric vehicle with almost 500 kilometers of autonomy and artificial intelligence for this price demonstrates the maturity of the local supply chain. The verticalization of battery and semiconductor production allows brands like Geely to absorb development costs without passing on the full amount to the end consumer.

Sistema Flyme Auto 2.0 and external design adjustments

The Geely Xingyuan cabin has undergone an update focused on the occupants’ digital experience. The multimedia center now runs the Flyme Auto 2.0 operating system, developed to ensure greater fluidity in the transition between menus and faster responses to voice commands. The main demand of consumers was met with the native integration of Apple CarPlay, facilitating the mirroring of navigation and audio streaming applications directly on the dashboard screen.

The design team opted for a conservative approach to the exterior, preserving the general lines that established the model on the streets. Aesthetic changes are limited to a new design for the alloy wheels, designed to improve aerodynamics and reduce drag at high speeds. The color palette has also been expanded with the addition of two new tones, offering greater customization possibilities.

Maintaining the original body design is a calculated financial maneuver. By avoiding changing stamping molds on assembly lines, the Geely saves millions on tooling, directing research and development budgets to software and batteries. The manufacturer is already preparing the approval documentation for the updated version of the EX2 to begin distribution in international markets in the coming months, expanding the brand’s presence outside Asian territory.
