A global recall campaign has been launched for 145 BMW iX3 cars identified as having a defect that could create a risk of electric shock. The problem was officially reported by Autoridade Federal of Transportes of Alemanha (KBA), covering vehicles produced between November of last year and February of this year. Este preventive recall aims to ensure consumer safety and vehicle compliance.

The reason for the intervention is faulty charging electronics, which may allow voltage to be present on the vehicle body during the charging process. The risk is clear: there is potential for electric shock if the bodywork is touched in these conditions. Até At the moment, no incidents or injuries have been reported resulting from this failure, reinforcing the preventive nature of the measure adopted by the automaker.

Detalhes of the failure and inspection process

The failure of the charging electronics is the crux of the issue that led to the recall of the vehicles. The problem was detected during routine inspections carried out by BMW, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to the quality and safety of its products. Early identification of the defect, even before incidents occurred, enabled a quick response.

Após discovery, BMW decided to suspend deliveries of vehicles that were already at dealerships. Essa preventive action ensured that no potentially affected vehicles were handed over to new owners without appropriate correction. The measure demonstrates the seriousness with which the company takes security issues and regulatory compliance.

Medidas resolution and suspension of deliveries

The resolution of the defect identified in the BMW iX3 involves the complete replacement of the charging electronics. Esta intervention is standard for critical component recalls, ensuring that the vehicle operates according to safety specifications. Owners of the 145 affected cars will be notified to take their vehicles to authorized BMW workshops.

Em Portugal, legislation requires the car to be presented at the workshop when there is a call from the brand. Repairs are, as a general rule, free of charge, ensuring that the cost of correcting the defect does not fall on the consumer. It is possible to check whether a vehicle is included in collection campaigns through the Recall portal, offered by the Portuguese authorities.

The BMW iX3 model and the Neue Klasse range

Lançado in September last year, the BMW iX3 represents an all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), marking the debut of BMW’s innovative Neue Klasse range. Esta new line of vehicles establishes the technological and design assumptions that will be incorporated into the brand’s future models in the coming years. The Neue Klasse symbolizes a significant advance in the German automaker’s electrification and digitalization strategy.

The principles of the Neue Klasse include the sixth generation eDrive powertrain, developed specifically for electric cars, and the integration of a new advanced operating system together with the BMW Panoramic Vision on board. The iX3 initially hit the market with the ix3 50 xDrive engine, offering all-wheel drive, 470 hp and a range of up to 805 km, thanks to a 108 kWh battery. A more affordable variant, the iX3 40, is also available with rear-wheel drive, 320 hp and 635 km of autonomy, equipped with an 82.8 kWh battery.

Principais characteristics of BMW iX3 engines:

  • ix3 50 xDrive:
  • * Tração: Integral
    * Potência: 470 hp
    * Autonomia: Até 805 km
    * Bateria: 108 kWh

  • iX3 40:
  • * Tração: Traseira
    * Potência: 320 hp
    * Autonomia: 635 km
    * Bateria: 82.8 kWh

Apesar from the recall setback, the iX3 remains a key pillar in BMW’s transition to electric mobility. The company’s quick response to the identified problem reinforces the importance of safety and quality in the production of high-tech electric vehicles.
