Instagram has officially released the feature that allows users to rearrange posts in the profile grid. The update, which arrived globally on Monday (8), breaks the rigidity of the automatic chronological display that existed since the launch of the social network.
Before the change, posts appeared fixed in the order in which they were published. Now, any user can manually change the sequence of photos, videos and carousels without having to delete or republish the content.
The tool is especially useful for content creators and professional accounts. They can create more coherent visual narratives, highlight recent work or maintain a consistent aesthetic on the profile, functioning as an editable portfolio.
How reorganization works on Instagram
To use the feature, simply open the app on your cell phone, access your profile and press and hold any post in the grid. The “Reorder Grid” option appears in the menu. Then, just drag the posts to the desired position. Changes are automatically saved and are valid for everyone who visits the profile.
Posts pinned to the top remain in place. Follower feed and post engagement metrics are not changed.
Impact for creators and brands
The freedom of visual curation can encourage more posts, as it removes the pressure of maintaining a perfect streak from the start. Profiles that accumulate years of content can now reorganize everything in a practical way, which was one of the community’s oldest complaints.
Experts note that the change reinforces Instagram’s tendency to prioritize personalization and user experience over a purely temporal timeline.
